Hi

For those that have the Touratech toolbox (or similar) mounted the the inside of the GSA left pannier rack, do you have any issues with clearance of the rear splash guard when riding on the road?

Thanks
Mark

Hugger and inner extended guard and std rear thingy with no problems at all.
Great toolbox. Got a Chinese one. Completely waterproof, easy to fit and has never budged in 10000miles.

Got the very one you mention (touratech) on 2009 GSA - never had an issue. Always worked very well.

Thanks all, the instructions were a bit vague about the removal of the splash guard. Must say, I'm impressed with what I can get in it.

Same here although my toolbox has Touratech written on it! I never gave the splash guard a thought and never had any issues.

I replaced the shovel thingy with a ilimberger carbon fibre hugger. As I don’t go off road, the hugger/ tyre clearance is not an issue. I have a Touratech toolbox fitted and following a comment about clearance somewhere in this thread (I think the fitting instructions of one of the copy toolboxes said to take the shovel thingy off), I tested the clearance by placing a steel rule on the tyre side of the toolbox and looking where the bottom of the rule intersects with the swing arm. My conclusion is that under maximum suspension compression, the shovel would clout the bottom of the toolbox.

Normal riding is OK, but if you hit big hole and bottom out to max, the rear mudguard will get destroyed or the box, better to use hugger to be safe and remove rear mudguard if you want to be totally safe, you can see reason in post 41, it makes more sense.

Mmm. After reading this and thinking about the many humpback bridges and dips on the roads in Wales, I think I will leave it off. Never had the suspension bottom out yet, but I'm sure it has been close.
