Good afternoon chaps
Just deciding how to mount the XT to my bike and wondering if the TT mount is worth it
It looks heavy and clunky & a bit awkward
Is the Garmin plastic mount sturdy enough or does the XT at danger of bouncing out ?

I've got a TT cradle and it is a chunky thing but looks well engineered. Not got round to fitting it yet as I need to make an over clock frame to hold it.
At the moment I'm using the ram fittings and mount that came with the XT and it seems fine just on the handlebars.
The only issue I have is it doesn't seem to click in positively so have glued a cable tie base to the back and looped a tether to it which I pass over the mount as extra peace of mind.

if you have the BMW Satnav doings fitted then consider the 3DAM adapter as demonstrated in this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twnrQyYUXMY&t=603s

I've bought one and I'm very pleased with it. Neat, simple to fit and best of all, uses the BMW electrics with no tinkering. A lot cheaper and better looking (IMO) than the Touratech offering

I think it is. Its peace of mind, if anything to help know something else holds it in. For me, the Garmin mount doesn't feel greatly secure & prefer it with the TT mount.

JB - the standard Garmin Mount is actually very good and never had an issue the sat nav jumping out.

Off road I use a bumper protector with a loop that goes around the mirror for added peace of mind but as said never had it jump out to start with.

Thanks
But not on a BMW bike

I think you may well be right, but it’s big and clunky

That’s a good option Paul and one I might consider if I don’t ultimately don’t like the TT mount that I already have in stock

I use the TT mount, as it’s lockable and I got fed up with always taking the XT in and out of the mount at petrol stations and
I did lose it once, after not clicking it back in properly (see above) but luckily it landed in my lap.
It’s on my 1290SAR which I use on road, and I’m sure I read on ADVrider that pepole have lost them out of the mount on trails.

There is some other device which locks it and also secures it in place, smaller and looks easier to use than the TT mount.

I've done enough offroading with the XT on his original mount, including an "over the bars" crash in a rut with the GS, and it didn't move.
I just double check that it clicks properly.

I'm liking the look of one of those bumpers above for mine when its on the TE.

Ye, I considered those as well, because a corner crack is the most common damage if the unit falls to the ground. But they are 3D printed and I don't like them that much (I know, I am fussy :D ).

I've had mine for about a year. It's certainly well engineered in that its pretty damn strong. I like it and find it easy to use. Don't leave the XT on there all the time but certainly at cafes and filling stations feel happy with locked in. Good kit IMHO.

I use the TT mount for the same reason as Berin, I also had a locking mount on my old 660 and I knew at some point I would forget about the XT so went for the TT mount.

To answer the question, I never had an issue with the XT mount, it feels very solid.

The standard plastic XT ‘clip in’ mount is more than adequate. Trust me.

There again, I have always only ever used Garmin’s /BMW’s standard mounts, relying entirely on the pound of butter in the fridge to ward off any problems.

Ive just pulled the plug on an XT, been wondering the same about the standard mount/ Touratech and the 3DAM so thanks for all the replies.
