Tourtech mount

Got a lockable tourtech mount for sp111,

My question is do you still need to put the little screw in !, or will the locking tab keep the unit secure at warp speeds ?

Personally, I always use the securing screw (my TT mount isn't a locking one) - It's belt & braces, but you'd feel a nit if it popped open and fell off the bike for the sake on a 5 second job, wouldn't you?

The Zafira has a metalised windscreen (designed to reflected the suns rays and prevent glare and heat build up inside the car), and therefore is not suitable for internal antennes that look out the front screen, you need to look out the back window for your reception or have an external antennae fitted

done some more reading regarding windscreen, so more money spent.

Take the knurled plastic bolt from the plastic mount and use that. I've been using mine for over a year & haven't managed to lose it yet.

Are you planning to leave the GPS on the bike when unattended? Although the mount is lockable, it's not secure at all, IMO - all the bolts underneath the U-clamps are exposed & I reckon I could get the unit off in about a minute if I wanted to......

I`ve lost my little screw ( the TT one). I wish I could get another. It must be a metric thread but I`m buggered if I can find one that fits.

I used it all the time for reassurance.

Got the lockable mount for fuel stops etc, but when it arrived thought it was a waste of time, ahh well its only money !,

Unit will only be on the bike when out riding, so its going to be fun looking after the screw, its about the size of a small tiny thing that isnt very big.

The little screw from the plastic mount wont fit, the plastic on top of the screw is too wide for it to fit against the side of the locking part of the mount,

A friend of mine had a Streetpilot old version until lately. He didn't bother and had it in the TT mount without the screw. Popped out, landed on the street, display died...

That's why he has a SPIII now (every cloud blabla...), and he sure does use the little screw now!

I'm a nit, no screw in my TT mount, if there ever was it was a pathetic tiny little thing that has gone the way of pathetic tiny little things that went before.

Don't see how I can get th plastic one off the other mount but then I am a nit.

Would a bloody clever person like to tell, me show me or get over here and do it for me? Maybe when he takes back his unbearably uncomfortable earplugs?

Plugs are already down there being fixed

If you just keep pulling (oo-err) as you unscrew the knurled bolt thingy, it will thread its way out of the plastic bracket (trust me, I've been screwing it in and out for over a year ). This is how Garmin fitted it in the first place. I then use the bolt whether in the plastic bracket (when using it in the car) or on the Touratech mount.

Works for me.

Another aerial.

To Roadrider, you need a re-radiating aerial. This little jobbie fits to the rear or side window and all you do is lay the end of the re-radiating aerial lead next to or close..ish to your Garmin and hey presto... reception restored. Suggested for boxes on wheels with aerials in the screen, heated front screens and such as your Vauxhall has. GPS Warehouse or GPS systems should supply, Approx £50.00 ish I think.

You can also use an aerail extension cable (Halfords?) and just insert the garmin aerial into the other end, you'll need some type of clip to hold it in your chosen position though.
