This has probably been asked before but after searching cannot seem to find an answer.

Do you have to replace the whole thing or (as per some videos on YT) will a battery replacement suffice. I have a 2014 GSA LC. Can this be done by my local MC shop or is a BMW job ? Any helpful comments would be welcome. TIA.

If you manage to replace the battery yourself the system should read when you ride the bike. If you replace the TPMS sensor then the number on the sensor will have to be programmed into your bike ecu with something like a GS911.

Live with it till you need new tyres then get the tyre fitter to replace the TPS at the same time. Replace both as the other one can't be far behind. Get your dealer to reprogramme the system.

Wasn’t there something that if you replace them one at a time and then ride the bike with one replaced sensor, the bike would recognise the new sensor, but if you did both, then a dealer is needed?

Years ago I had my K12S rear wheel ruined by the tyre place as they tried to remove the tyre and half pulled the TPMS out too, cracking the rim in the process.

Be sure that whoever you get to change the tyres are familiar with the TPMS unit.

yes correct fit 1 ride bike 15 minutes and bike see new 1, if fit 2 must only do 1 at a time and ride 15 minutes.

no need dealer.

Literally just put the wheel and new tyre back on my '14 plate GS LC, after changing the battery on the front wheel.

Not an easy job to do as the battery is not readily swoppable due to I suspect, BMW having Maxell manufacture batteries just for them, so you can't buy a direct replacement, but with some careful wiring it can be done. You definately need a wake up tool, and if you can do the tyres yourself, it's much easier.
