I’ve just finished Installing and configuring an RDC on my 2010 TC, now comes to the bit I may need assistance with, fitting the actual sensors in the wheel.

Anyone done this and was it difficult, awkward etc or would you recommend me taking the wheels off and visiting a tyre fitters?

Thanks
Rich.

No fairly easy (I managed to destroy one seal anyway :D ).
Just be sure that there is nothing between the rim and the rubber seal. I had a leaky valve and it was because I was an idiot and ruined the seal that way.

I had the wheels sans tyres already.
Installed the valves/sensors and then had tyres installed.

Ah, my wheels have tyres on, hence my question of how easy.

Can't be done without removing tyres. The fact you're asking would mean you're better off taking it to a tyre place, along with the sensors, they'll put them in and put your tyres back on. Well, mine did for £20. No charge for taking the tyres off, just putting back on and balancing.

I thought that would be the case as the beads would sit in the well where the sensor needs to be.
I’ll remove wheels and get them in somewhere.
Thanks.

Aaaah.
Nah, you have to take the tyres off. Go to a tyre place with the wheels and the new valve/sensor and ask if they can fit them for you. Will cost as removing/refitting the tyres to be fair. Very little.

Ok, installation update….

RDC fitted and added to bike config, Combi display configured too.

TPMS senders activated with tool.

When I put the Combi display onto RDC T and activate the senders I get the temperature displayed, if I cycle the ignition there’s no reading once ignition is back on unless I use the tool while ignition is kept on.

Is this to be expected until the sensors are actually installed and tyre pressure is present or might I have a pair of faulty sensors?

Thanks

Ps, I manually added the sensors before I had the activation tool to hand.

Yes, the information will be lost (when restarting the bike) until you "wake" the sensors by rotating the wheels for a bit. Or, in your case, use the orange tool.

Generally the way they work is: you turn on the bike and will see -- -- on both pressure and temperature.
You start riding and, after a bit, you will see the value. They do not "wake up" at the same time front/rear. It varies. Usually one hundred meters or so and all it's up an running (rolling :D )

Minor thing: I noticed on my hex (2007) that if you turn the ignition off and back on again almost immediately, sometimes you might still get readings from one or both of the sensors. I suspect it's because they were still broadcasting data or maybe some stuff is briefly stored in the kombi memory and persists a bit after shutting off.

BTW, you can decide to hide the Temperature data from the Kombi and keep just the pressure (one less screen to cycle through if it's an issue). You can code this via Motoscan or other similar coding tools.

Many thanks for that.
I’ve just checked on my similar age RT with TP monitoring and that too doesn’t show any readings when it’s at a standstill.

So, I’ll go ahead and get the sensors fitted to the wheels now.

On a similar issue I bought the orange tool ( Chinese version) and when I first used it all was fine ,now it doesn’t seem to wake the sensors up .getting the usual reading on the dash so just wondering what it would be .

These wake up tools seem to be power hungry, you need a good quality battery in good condition.
