I must admit, the whole track day thing makes me puke !
If you want to race, Race !
Wobbling round a circuit with a bunch of ponces and then listening to how fast they were going really makes my teeth grate.

I would rather spend the money actually riding somewhere.

I hear people actually turn up in vans with tyre warmers.

Lets just all buy jet skis and live in Essex.

Remember when motorcycles were transport ?

And another quote from you turnip - Football morons

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been on a 'Councelling for women in Prisons' course in Highbury all week.
Did you realise, that because a bunch of knuckle dragging, overpaid prima donnas may win a pointless 'game' that the whole area has been closed off to let them parade in a bus !
Although it is only for a hour around 13.00 the roads are closed from 06.00 to 18.00.
In other words all local businesses and there employees will effectively lose a days work.
No doubt the National heath/Police services will also been run ragged with Red and White shirted imbeciles

Having a good day again are we :dabone

I'd also be interested in a GS track day. Did Brands Indy a couple of weeks ago, almost the only road bike there, all trailers & tyre warmers. Mallory should be good.

Well Fork me.
Track days....
Slack jawed faggots comes to mind!
BMW GS? Is that the bike that was built for the really rough roads layed? Shame on you shandy drinking wazzocks!
Fashion bikers pi55 me off.

You seem to be a bit confused as well as loud mouthed, mixing fashion bikers with track days. As for off road, green laning etc, that's one of the reasons I got my GS, and I'm looking forward to it (after the off-road course in Wales). In the meantime, I'll probably do a couple of track days, buy some bits for the bike, and you mate can go 'fork' yourself. Suggest in future you post up before you get on the cider. :dabone

Could I suggest a further section for this great site....an arseholes section. That way some of the above can post shite to each other all day long and not get in the way of a post that is trying to organise something to peoples benefit. Knobheads

Seconded.... :thumb

Now where were we... just checked the Hopp Rider Training http://www.hoppridertraining.co.uk/BetterRiding.asp ..this is always a great idea for track day virgins... my first ever track day was at Cadwell with Rapid Training http://www.rapidtraining.co.uk/e/home.htm... the learning curve was staggering...

Track days have to be booked well in advance as they have increased in popularity over the last few years... I wonder if the training days may be a better option as we are already well into the season... :nenau

Vern... do you have any further news... :nenau

Just as an aside to the "Track days are for fashion victims" postings.
I did a track day at Oulton to further my knowledge of mine, and my GS's abilities (or lack thereof) on a consistent surface, where a minor mistake would theoretically prove less life threatening than on todays busy highways. I have also taken my GS around a Motocross track, green laning, touring Europe, commuting and nipping to the shops.
I feel that a track day solely for GS's would negate the need to watch my back (as much) for people who may/may not have faster bikes than me, and may/may not have the ability to get said bikes around the patch of tarmac I am currently occupying.
In short:

Rod, if you intend doing Brands Indy again I'd like to join you, have done it a few times on the Gixer 750 and reckon it would be a good circuit for the GS. How did it fare? (and did you have your topbox on ;) )

The bike was great, but I have a second set of 17" sport wheels 120/70 - 180/55. Thats what's great about this bike, it can do allmost everthing, & well enough to put a smile on my face.
I've done the off road course in Wales, 3000 mile round trip to the Alps & Dolomites, off the the Pyrenes & Picos next month, comuted & now track days.
As far as fashion victims go, that could more pointedly be said about taking the GS off road after watching the Ewen & Charley show.
I've been riding bikes for 20 years & just enjoy all aspects of riding.
I normally post on the Adv. Rider site, as the American attitude is so much more positive. Why do the British like to knock everything??

Why don't we simply book onto a regular trackday into the slow group and have a ball.A GS in a slow group well ridden will be one of the fastest bikes there, and for the novices, you won't get in anyone's way. We'll probably struggle to get enough to make a special GS day .Just a thought. :)

I was really hoping to get a whole day at Donnington, just for the GSs.That way,you don't have to watch out for the twats on the rice rockets who are all trying to prove something, and we could all have a good larf at each other.

I only posted his to see how many people were interested, before I went any further with it,but there are only 51 replies so far,and over half of those are nothing to do with what I was planning,so I'll put this down to a mighty lack of interest, and abandon it for now.

I'll keep an eye on the thread though, and see if anything else comes out of it.

Cheers :beerjug:

'That way,you don't have to watch out for the twats on the rice rockets who are all trying to prove something, and we could all have a good larf at each other'.

Why do you have to slag off the sportsbike riders, wonder if you'd have the balls to go to a track day and call them twats, and what the f*ck is the point of doing a track day to 'have a good larf at each other'? Get a life ffs

JDH

Like it or not,a GS isn't going to be going anywhere near as fast as,say,a GSXR on the track.Ever been hit up the arse by something going a lot faster than you,it feckin hurts,I can tell you,and it's a big problem on track days.

I know for a fact that a lot of people come away from track days bragging how they"cut up slower riders"and how much faster they are on their bikes. Now I'll quite happily go out and play with these people, but a vast majority of people on this web site, have never been on a track day for that very reason.

I just thought that it would be nice to let people "have a go" on a good track, without worrying about some wannabe on a missile taking them out.

As for having a larf at each other, well, you go to the hog raost and not take the piss out of some one,or have the piss taken out of you!!

I've got some good contacts in the racing world, and hiring Donninton for a GS only day was on the books if enough people were interested, which they're not,so I'll leave it up to you to sort out if you want, you seem to be an expert on the subject(without a sense of humour, that'll be a fun day then)

And I've got a life,thankyou very much

My intention was not to knock your idea of a GS only track day, great idea and a really good intro for riders who have never done one before. My problem is with your sweeping statement about sportsbike riders as 'twats' trying to outdo one another. I never professed to be an expert, but I happen to enjoy trackdays and I ride a sportsbike and don't appreciate those kinds of comments. A trackday on a properly prepared bike in a controlled environment is an excellent way for any rider to hone their skills for the road.

One thing it isn't is a 'follow my leader' session. Many riders spend a lot of time and money on their bikes to optimise performance and they will do their best to beat the next guy. Yes, I have seen some stupid behaviour on track, and that included one GS rider who endangered others with his complete disregard for fellow riders, but I don't label all GS riders as twats because of the behaviour of a small minority. I apologise for my caustic remarks to you, I was genuinely annoyed at the time, but I have calmed down now. Can I just ask that you give consideration to the fact that there are a lot of sportsbike riders on this site, so don't label us all as twats.

I'm very disappointed to read this but appreciate your efforts. My supermoto wheels get fitted on Friday and I'll post once I've found a suitable track day event.
