Can anyone give me some advice or tips on setting my 1150gs up for a track day.I used to ride sports bikes, but now have fallen in love with my gs.My mates ribbed me at first, untill i passed them on the twisties.Ive just orderd some 020s,inspired by good feed back from web site.
I would like to give my mates a run for thier money at cadwell park on thursday,i would like some good tips on set up,will i need to wear knee sliders,do i hang off bike i havnt a clue, ive done plenty of track days but not on gs.

Hi

Did a track day on my Adventure back in March at Mallory (no long straights) and left all the settings as standard and it coped really well. Problem I had is that I was riding off the edge of the tyres - tourances - so best to try and hang off a bit to compensate. Otherwise just enjoy yourself and if you have ABS use it to the full overtaking everyone into the corners!!!

Have fun:D

Remember to slide your feet back on inside footrest when cornering. I nearly lost a toe on my left foot when it grounded out at Mansfield! Mind you, I didn't change the suspension from normal road settings beforehand - I was looking for a 'road realistic' experience.

Have fun, Norman

Thanks for advice, hope your toe has grown back, ill try and remember that.
I have contacted earl engineering in sittingbourne kent, who look after my bike, they have offerd to set my suspension up and give me some good advice. It looks like a wet track day, this is going to be fun.ill let you know how i get on.

Ill be riding on 020s which i have been infomed are the ones to go for.It looks like a wet track day so the abs could come up trumps.ive never taken advantage of the abs,do you just wack on loads of front and back or just back.
This gs thing is all new to me, its certainly growing on me aswell.
Ill go and enjoy myself anyway.

Mine is an 04 Adventure with servo ABS and linked brakes so just left braking as long as possible then gave it a handfull of front brake before tipping it in.

If yours is an earlier model without servo/linked brakes then use both front and rear at same time.

Take it easy for the first couple of laps as having the ABS cutting in can be a little disconserting until you get use to it. Once you are use to it, I find it a real advantage and there is nothing like outbreaking R1s into the hairpin at Mallory with the ABS chirping away.
