Looking to purchase a tracker for the GS 1250. Initially decided on a Mtrack 4 from Automatrics but found out that it does not monitor as so to speak and relies solely on me finding out the bike being stolen and then phoning to activate. This potentially could mean the thief having a good 10-12 hours or more before realising it to be stolen. Giving them plenty of time to locate and remove. Automatrics do offer a model that does monitor but is a lot bigger and fatter. Not sure if I can hide it sufficiently.

What trackers does everyone have and where do they put them.

Given the level of paranoia that pervades the 1200 and upwards section, advertising to the world wide world where they stick them on their awesome 1250 steeds, will leave you exposed to the scorn of your fellow like minds. Why not look at the device you decide to buy and then look at your bike and decide on the most fiendishly cunning place you can imagine.... having in mind that if you settle on one of the shonky Chinese devices bods often chose for their expensive motorbikes (as they don’t want to pay for anything decent) you may be changing its internal battery more times than your underpants.

PS Advice on trackers is not limited to this section.... intelligent life lives outside of the pond.

Biketrac, follow them on facebook (if you use facebook).

Brilliant, but not the cheapest (about £350 installed + subscription).

You can set geofence or movement warnings to text you.

RBW.

Very happy with my Scorpion Trakking Adventure.

Another vote for biketrac

They come as standard now on Multistrada so i didn't have a choice but it seems to work well and if you move the bike without the ignition you get a text within seconds and a phone call almost straight after that

AS said in Geo fence mode you get a little bit of grace before the calls and texts happen (dont ask how i know as its fairly obvious)

Data tool Trak king on my Goldwing.

Very impressed

Data tool Tracking Adventure on my GS Exclusive. Try 'The Bike Alarm Man' Peter Mouncer on 07877 552759 www.bikealrmman.com - excellent and very knowledgeable bloke. Definitely not cheap but monitored 24/7. Datatool even send me a notification if the bike is elevated on a ramp during servicing. Well recommended.

Try this firm - At least 20-30 people in the 2x Local IAM clubs have this unit fitted. Works really well. Doesn't drain Bike battery and has a SIM card fitted which costs about £10 a year. All of us are very happy with the unit and the service provided by the company.

But I guess it depends where you live though.

As per with motor cars, trackers do not stop the bike from being stolen just helps to recover the bike. My advise would be to install further locks as this will take a lot longer to remove and if two bikes next to each other, one with disc lock and chained to an immobile object the other nothing which one will disappear??

Also tracking signals are known to be block by the professional scumbags.

Have a look at the Spot Trace. I use one on my GSA. Compact, cheaper than some with some good features. Can run either off of batteries in the unit or hard wired to the nikes battery.

Theres a deal on at the bike show for those mobile tracking units but I cant find the info right now.

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, or did you not know that ? I find that hard to believe since you seem to know everything else.:comfort:rolleyes:

Tracker decided and fitted

Thank you all for you advice, I decided in the end to go with the Automatrics’s. The main reason as it is battery operated and will not invalidate the warranty with BMW. It also has police support and will still be picked up if stashed in a shipping container. Let’s hope it will never be put to the test.

Plenty vids on utube showing Automatrics in action. Can be found via GPS or cell masts. Neat system although a tad expensive, however im considering it before my awesome lands up in the pages of ebay, in bits for sale, from Lithuania.
