My new to me early 2024 1300 GS arrives in the next week or so. Having read a couple of negative things regarding Datatool Stealth S5 trackers and battery drain I thought I'd ask here about the GS battery.

Does anyone know if this is a Lithium battery, and whether my standard Optimate battery maintainer will work with it?

Also, is there a 12v socket on the bike that I can plug into, or am I best to put an Optimate charge lead on the battery.

Bike shouldn't be left more than a week without use at any point, so hopefully it won't cause too much trouble.

I've got an S5 tracker on my Triumph,
and you're right about the battery drain.

After a few phone calls telling me my tracker had stopped sending a signal I invested in a new battery tender( lithium battery)

Cheers.

Just checked and my Optimate 1 Duo will handle Lithium batteries, but isn't CANBUS compatible, so won't charge via the 12v DIN socket. I'll fit a charge lead to the battery.

Answering the battery type question.. I took delivery of my new GS today and it has an AGM battery. My bike was built at the end of June, if that helps.

Cheers. There seems to be conflicting information about that. It looks line my Optimate isn't too fussy as long as you connect directly to it.

My Bike Trac goes for weeks, with still enough oomph to start the 1250.

Still showing 13.2v, two weeks since I last used it.

a lot depends on the quality of the cellphone signal and how much power the tracker transmitter has to use to get a ping.

My 24 bike has the S5 fitted from bmw
I use an optimate which is switched to lithium
Also has the bmw alarm
No issues at all
Optimate cycles as it should with the canbus
Connected all the time
DIN socket to the right of the dash

Also, starts better and easier than the 2022 1250 GS before

My 2025 GSA has lithium lightweight 'sports' battery - but that was specced as an extra (not by me though). Got BMW alarm and Innov Cameras (that monitor movement) - no drain problems yet but will see! Took a long time for NOCO charger to fully charge it the other day, whereas lithium on other bike that had been standing for a similar time charged fully in about 10 mins - hope that's not and indication!!

Thant's interesting as the bike is garaged when not in use.

have you never noticed your phone getting warm in an area with low cell signal as the phone works harder boosting its signal?

turn wifi off on your phone and see what strength signal you get in the garage, although you might not be on the same network as the tracker

I get no readings on the app when the bike is off in the garage
Only if i switch the ignition on

Kitchen time at a little project of mine. Jobs looked at and snow not to bad.
