trading "down" to an airhead (or is it "up")

As is said try and get a good ride as they are dinosaurs ,I had a nice 1100 and used it for distance but found myself gravitating towards the airheads I owned at the time more and more ,scratch your itch and if they are not for you move it on and the whole experience will cost feck all as they are money in the bank accruing interest.:beerjug:

I got one (then another) recently after having oil heads for 14 years.

Yesterday I had the first (only short, but sweet) ride out with a couple of regular riding buddies and we all got to swap bikes.

For perspective, the other bikes were a perfectly fettled KTM 950 ADV and a Hilltop fettled Twincam GSA.

My R80GS was VERY SLOW in comparison when we accelerated out of slow corners, particularly compared to my brother's Hiltlop fettles GSA which is really smooth and quick, picking up the front wheel everywhere on twisty stuff.....

You think your R80GS is slow, you want to ride my R65GS - all 27hp of it, I think the 0-60 is a shade under 10 seconds !
Lovely bike to ride though, and of course much rarer than any R80 - R100g/s :D

And if you think THAT was slow, you should have ridden my R45 - 0-60 was near 20 seconds:eek:, and it was by no means certain that you could get to 70, let alone maintain it - it was the most gutless bike I have ever ridden, period. Couldn't wait to get shot of it. That said it was a sweet free revving engine tho, just no power.

Ive got my eye on a blue R80G/S on e bay, seems a tad pricey at £5500 and they are "not open to offers" - what to do, what to do......

That's a lot of money for an R80g/s and the more that people are prepared to pay, the higher the prices will go - bit of a vicious circle.

Keep an Eye on Ebay.de , they come up there fairly regular .
If you went with the Blue one , you would end up painting it white .
I reckon , you would be better of with an R100GS.

It's a shed load of cash.

theres a nice st on there that's currently at £2500. A better bike than the g/s and far rarer.

Gotta agree with rob on this one. He ST handles really well, much better than the g/s... Well it feels like it does anyway but this may be down to it being a bit shorter. Anyhow... For the money difference... Id take the st no questions asked.

Try one then get straight on your GSA . You'll know then . I find the TC GSA to be one of the best Bikes I've ridden and they are still fairly easy to work on / service yourself . If its an itch scratch it but don't spank 12 grand on a museum piece . Or buy a cheap one and run both , flog the one that you don't use as much :thumby:

Another one agreeing with Rob....
80g/s mono, great bike, very nimble and grin factor 100+:thumby:
ST mono, BEST HANDLING bike [airhead] BMW have ever made.:thumby::thumby::thumby:
Perfect straight out of the box, forget straight line speed, come the twisties and the rice rocket riders will not believe it when you overtake them on the bends, whilst you're sitting bolt upright :rob it's great fun....:bounce1

WARNING..
BUY AN R80ST... AND EVEN THINK OF g/s ING HER, AND I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN, ***** YOU, AND TAKE THE ST OFF YOU !!!!!
They are rare, let's keep all remaining ST's intact :thumb

Hee hee, morning coffee very nearly expirated through left nostril :D

I can see the attraction of the ST, just having a little difficulty seeing past the somewhat fugly dash/console, same as what was on my R45 (and one of the things that I really didnt like about it). The one on ebay is still within the reserve at £2500 so who know what the reserve is, may be well expensive.....

Completely agree tho - keep em unmodified :thumb2

I think thats the way im veering - run them in tandem for a bit. I do have another option being that I could still keep the GSA regardless (at least for a while, until swmbo again objects to tripping over bikes to get into the house etc etc etc:blagblah) and sell my Enfield Bullet, which is a fun bike, but which I only really use for bimbles around the block these days. Basically swop one classic for the other, and one that I am more liklely to use.

Hmmm decision decisions........

Which Bullet do you have ?

That would be a 1993 500 bullet. India's finest! Few nice little mods on it, single seat, high flow oil pump, "sports" exhaust and jetting etc etc etc

It is, de facto, a 1950's bike in all regards, just happens to have been finished in 1993. Folks are now saying that these themselves are becoming collectable what with being the last of the "classic" bullets, ie right foot gear change. cable drum brakes, non fuel injected, non electronic ignition etc etc.

I love it, but it might be time to say goodbye soon....:(

Having ridden over 20000km in Southern India and the Mighty Himalaya's on one they are indeed a fine machine . Had an EFI Woodsman for 3 years which was lovely as well . Toolkit = a Brick and a Hammer !:D

Good man - just do it, its the way forward

Time to rectify this one!
