Bought my first GS on the 14 plate, and I'm very happy with the bike.
Went into Cotswold BMW Gloucester for a free coffee as you do on the way home.
Looking at the new GSA, I asked what it would cost to change.......................... I don't think the salesman quite knew what to do with me rolling around on the floor laugh like a Hyena.

My 14 plate TE, with full Vario luggage for a 64 plate GSA TE with full luggage. Mine and £5,800.00.

I'm not after a change, as I'm very happy with my GS. I just wondered what the damage would be.................... I expected £4 - 4.5 K. Considering this is my third bike from them.

Ok I missed out the panniers & topbox ............ so the ali luggage plus locks is £1300 is it? :nenau

depends on how your deal with the sales man ..i got a Sat Nav thrown in on the deal and a top box at half price ,no Panniers … My friend as just got his too , he paid £800 for all the luggage and locks ….theres deals to be had if you are strong enough to speak to the salesman

considering its your third bike from them they are not showing much loyalty towards you …….if your seriously thinking of swapping Id try another dealer for comparison

Luggage option is £1180.00.

And he's telling me that he's looking after me because I'm a returning customer. I do feel however, that I could squeeze more out of them if I wanted to trade.

When I was looking to trade my troublesome 2013 wc for a 2015wc, they took the fact that I'd had 16mnth's of problems and the bike was still not right into consideration and offered to swap the bike for a mere £4,600

To be honest it's the best offer they ever made me as it made me move on.

Well, if you will deal with 'Dealers'... :augie

Plenty of good bikes available out there, in the real world.

You pay a large premium for that new bike 'smell' or what the equivilant should be for a bike. That's gone as soon as you sign the paperwork. Doing it twise is twise the premium, or smell. :augie

What he is telling you doesn't add up. If he's allowing you £11k for your bike then between the two figures there is a £110 discrepancy.

My local dealer is offering the aluminium luggage with 50% off so is there any reason why yours couldn't do the same?

Take a ride out at the weekend and get a second opinion from some other dealers :thumby:

PS I would suggest that you remove the Varios from your bike before you go :augie

I got my 2 year old car serviced yesterday, at the main dealer

Salesman I dealt with originally tries to tempt me into the new model

Apparently my car has lost 50% of its value, in 2 years and 36000 miles, despite being in VGC

To trade up up, would cost me an extra £14k, for a car that hasn't as many features as the one I have (they have changed the models and the ones with the toys are at the top of the price scale now.........progress:rolleyes:)

Or the offer of a 0% PCP, where I could could get £5k cash back (as my p/ex is worth too much:rolleyes:, for the scheme), pay 36 x £215/month and have a balloon of £11.5k at the end

No wonder people get sucked in

If my 2 yo car is only worth £12.5k now, how will the new one be worth £11.5k at 3yo, I asked..........................the salesman was stumped and quickly changed the subject

To get into another new one, you'd have to walk away or stump up a larger wedge to contribute in 3 years

Dealers must love gullible people with the talk of 0%, offers of £5k cashback (to blow on a holiday/sofa/kitchen/bathroom), low monthly repayments and then the seduction of a new car/bike.....................but wtf happens down the line and things change:rolleyes:

Consumerism.................the death of the UK

I always buy with cash or a bank loan or a combination of both - if you don't have the cash then shop around for the lowest interest (with no hidden fees) bank loan. The bike is then yours with no strings attached and you get the 'true' value at trade in or re-sell time.

If you go for that deal it will be an expensive coffee stop. :rob

That's exactly what I did. Bought a 11 month old bike privately. It worth ever Penney of what I paid for it, probably more.
Bought it of a very nice bloke spent a few hours there coffee talking about bikes. Much nicer experience than a dealer.

On his own head obviously. How foolish of JB to buy a new car after all his relentless pontificating on here. :D

Ha, sometimes a good new vehicle deal comes along................bit like the 'run-out' 12 GSA's last year with a big discount and £2k's worth of luggage and extras thrown in, those were the smart buyers

Very different to a PCP, for private use.....................however my business bought & paid for it, so all tax deductable and in 2012 Honda were knocking £4k off RRP, as the new model had come out

Decent deal and one car, to run for a good few years

I notice that BMW (and probably all manufacturers) are aggressively pushing PCP and making traditional finance unattractive. I went with proper finance because it meant that I end up owning it rather than owing them £7.5K after 3 years. To me PCP just sucks you into paying a monthly lease fee for a new bike/car every 3 years so you spend the rest of your life under finance.
I would have gone down the bank loan route but the APR from BMW was better. The downside is that you don't own the bike until it's paid off. Of course I would have loved to be a cash buyer but it's not so easy to find £14K in one lump sum unless you're flush! If I do tire of the bike I can always get a loan to pay the outstanding balance off and then flog it on but given the overall finance cost there will be some negative equity - but you lose far more from brand new when you take it out of the showroom anyway.
