Trail Attack 3 -v- Pilot Road 6

CTAs are brilliant tyres on the GS. I've had several sets. My new bike came with Next 2s on and having worn them out i ummd and arrd and went for Next 2s again. Nothing between these two i think.

Had CTA3s on my GS and I was pleased with them in most respects. The only thing I found was they felt a little less planted on the motorway than the Bridgestones they replaced.
I had 2 sets so can’t have been that bad.

I’m tempted to try the Anakee Roads when the time to change comes.

i have been riding GS,S for a million years, and my opinion pilot road 6 bike handles better ,as for lasting the trail attacks last longer before going out of shape.

I normally have Metzeler Roadtec 01’s, now superseded by 02’s. However, I could only get Road Pilot 6 at my last service and I have been impressed. I still prefer the Roadtecs but these have been really good tyres. I am surprised to read criticism of them.

I have tried all the other usual suspects over the years and definitely think the Roadtec tyres are the best.

I had CTA 3’s but had this odd cracking appear on both tyres. My supplier/fitter took it up with Continental but they weren’t very forthcoming with their thoughts. They did heavily discount the replacements. The same started happening with the replacements after a few months (3-4k miles) so I shit canned them & had Metz Tourance Next 2’s fitted. Very happy with them & im about to get a new pair fitted.

Nobody seems to mention Conti Road Attack 3. I’ve had 3 sets now and if it wasn’t for emergency Pirelly Scorpion Trail 2, I’d be replacing them with another set. Great tyres. PS. I’ve never had Trail Attack 3 on any of my bikes. What’s the main difference between Trail and Road?

I had both TA3s and RA3s on my 1200

The TA3s are slightly quicker stearing than the RA3s but I also find they give a floaty sensation on the front end at speed in a straight line, especially when 2 up and loaded. They also track tar snakes and white lines a bit,

I didn't notice either of these behaviors with the RA3s

I don’t have the skill to notice any difference in grip between the two, they both stick like shit to a blanket and I’m pretty sure I’ve never been even close to their limits

When my current OEM tyres need replacing I’ll almost certainly try some Road Attack 4s

+1 on the slight high speed uncertainty with RA3s. Really noticeable on concrete roads that have had the surface "improved" by grinding longitudinal grooves (eg A30 Eastbound between Exeter & Honiton). But otherwise they're a great all-round tyre and excellent during the winter (& even in recent snow).

It was the Trail attack that found floaty, I don’t remember the Road attack doing it

If you are looking for pure grip metzler now do the M9rr in GS sizes now

Keep the comments coming folks as my trip to the dealer was curtailed by some of the 'W' stuff!

i had ra 3 on my vstrom 650. almost from the get go they tracked lines and felt as if they were squared off. tried different pressures, no difference. now back on road 6 and far better.

I've used Trail Attacks for the last 5 sets of tyres, they give a lot of confidence, but are crap in 4 inches of snow .:DDas I found out the other day, but there again I thing most tyres would be.

I found it wasn't a lack of tyre grip but a lack of grip from my boots on packed snow/ice when I was forced to come to a stand following other traffic! But yes knobblies with studs would've been better than the TA3s.

650 V-Strom, 1200/1250/1300 GS and 1290 Super Adventure S are different bikes, Latter two specimen, share same size boots and in my experience said boots work well on them. V-strom no doubt has a narrower profile tyres, that might be the issue in your instance.

yes they are different. the 1200 ( i had one ) and the vstrom are on the same size of tyre. possibly someone else on a vstrom may find the ra3s okay. tyres are a very personal thing it seems .
