Trail Tech HID lights.

Would anybody have any experience of the trail tech HID Lights as shown here? http://www.trailtechproducts.co.uk/store/erol.html The spot lights that is not the huge search lights they do.

I've got two of them an MR16 30W Hid and a MR11 13w hid both used on a mountainbike in the winter.

The MR11 would be ok for running lights as the depth of the beam isn't very far.

The MR16 are fooken bright and would be good as extra riding lights as the beam depth is very good. If you go for them then buy the spot bulb variation as the flood beam pattern goes every where and would blind everyone.

One advantage with these lights is that the ballast is built into the bulb so there's no need to have a separate ballast makes bulb replacement easier.

The bulbs are dear mind around £60.

Thanks for your comments. Have you had yours long? I have read on ADV Rider that some peeps have had failures and also the lens tends to go cloudy??

Hi Adie, I've had the 13w hid for two years and the 30w hid for just over a year.

I use them for about 1hr and a bit once a week as I dont fancy hitting a tree etc in the dark.

I've had no problem with the 13w hid and I replaced the bulb in the 30w as it failed with about 6 month use.

The body is very well made and well sealed and I have no problems with condensation etc on either and considering the abuse that they get they have lasted well.

They do recommend not to turn these on and off for short periods as this shortens the bulb life and the 30w needs a constant air flow of about 10mph for cooling as it runs very hot and will switch off if it starts to overheat.

Considering the price of the touratech equivalent at £600+ for two against these at £236 even buying a few extra bulbs would still be cheaper. The touratech xenon are 35w @ 3200 lumens ??? and the trailtech are 30w @ 1800 lumens
