Trailer - what to get

I have 2 bike trailers that ill be selling.

1st one is a fixed trailer, had all new bearings fitted, cw lighting board and will carry a gs no probs, used it mostly to carry enduro bikes, but now and again i stick the gs on.

2nd one is a folding trailer ill sell for £250 its far better engineered than DC trailers, it comes to bits and fits in the boot of your car and it will carry upto 350kg and its like new, I've used it on trips, drove down to Dover in car with gs on trailer getting the boring bit out the way, than folded up, stuck it in boot and gone on my hols.

Very clever, but over complicated, and I would question it's reliability over the long term.

I have a Daxara 127 trailer. Its a box type but the box is easily removable and a wheel trough could bolted/strapped on. The 400kg load capacity is more than enough for a GS and they are cheap enough on eBay. Overall more useful than a bike trailer.

Grass needs cutting and bad scrapes on the patio (lacking grouting between the slabs) where you've probably dragged the trailer.

Nice to see a burst of sunshine though.
 
I ended up with a Trigano (French) 2 + 1 trailer. It came as a kit, saying it should take a couple of hours to build - I spent three afternoons. It's on ten inch wheels and has an all up weight of 550kg so a payload capable of pulling a loaded GS and a smaller bike as well if I wanted. I got all the extras to go with it, straps, spare wheel, loading ramp, jockey wheel etc and it was about 700 all in.

+1 JB. Them sides bend and buckle first sign of any tension from straps etc, apparently:augie.

Whatever type you go for you want the wheels outboard of the body to get the centre of gravity down. 250 kg up high is asking for trouble in a tight corner,or emergency lane change for example.
Also you need to think of how you are going to get it onto the trailer. There are lots of 'not so hilarious' videos on youtube of guys trying to ride bikes onto trailers pick-ups etc.
 
So, now I've got the trailer - how do people hold the bike down? I know that BMW like the front forks strapped each side over the fork bridge. That results in the bike not being compressed down against the suspension - I wonder if they do that as a lot of the 'new' BMWs don't have any frame to attach straps to?....or do they do that for some reason to do with the telelever?

I always try to strap the unsprung parts, as in the pic above, which in my opinion is perfect :)
Compressing the front or rear suspension right down, can pop seals, don't tighten them enough and the hooks shake loose on any bad bumps [sleeping policemen] etc.
The above, is another reason I use CARABINERS to fasten the straps to trailer, no chance of coming loose...
Make sure that your trailer does not have metal sided bearings in the wheels, if they do, CHANGE IMMEDIATELY to rubber sealed ones..
They go bang v quickly.......metal lets the water and salt into the bearings....
