Trailers

I bought one a short while ago.

It has three rails so that I have the option to take 2 dirt bikes together (sub 130kg) on the outer rails or a heavier (upto 350kg) in the middle wider rail.

So far I've towed it a lot, but only either empty or with my KTM 200 in the centre.

Errm...and you towed that with a bike ??? As per the question ??

There was a new GSer at Llangollen...'Travelling Man'.....who had a trailer attached to his GS.

It appears to be a better idea than you`d first think, because it`s narrower than a lot of pannier systems and you don`t notice it behind the bike,he said.

Trailer behind my GS? Yep!

An answer? Up the front Spring Rate. A increase in fuel use. Bike is happy. Handles ok. No crap to climb over. Great for Long Trips. Big Jim Tassy Australia.

I've towed an oddleg trailer on a ZZR in the wet and it was altogether less scary than I thought it was going to be. I know he was looking at the mounting for a GS and decided that it would be fairly straight forward to do.

The only thing that takes getting used to is the extra length which you can't always see in your mirrors otherwise it all still handles like a bike (unlike with two wheeled trailers which skip and bounce in corners) and you don't really notice the extra weight too much.

Reply from Jim.

Ged-Day, Smelly.
Trailer; Homemade. steel frame, Ali. sht. ( ex Hwy Signs), Mini ,mags+ Radials. Home Md. Swivel Coupling. Very light. TowBar;( I'm a Boiler Maker) No way was I going to fit one of the rubbish 'approved ones'? This is great. BMW design to carry loads where? Ans. Panniers/ Rack. Ok? 50mm x 8mm Flat Bar. formed under guard. From Pan. mounts x4, inside rego plate, rolled to form shape and 90deg. for Ball. Plus U Hoop from Tow bar to Rear Foot Peg Mounts. Gs s have massive travel. Normal hieght /Tow Ball hieght is no good. So. Load Bike fully / trailer fully. Get a mate ( you + Pillion? will be on Bike). Messure Trailer level. Trans. that to back of loaded bike. Thats the Loaded Hitch Hieght. (Pictures I hope I can load them to the site)? I tow this Trailer for Base Camps. Loaded up to speeds over 120 Kmh. I like 90 to 110 otherwise the fuel Consumption is poor ( about 280/310ks for 21litres)? Trailers? Yes/ No? Ok I was like that I got sick to death of a Top Heavey GS and climbing on and off! So? I'm 6' 4" love the room aboard the GS. How about this fact? I have a Touring friend GTR 1000 Trailer Combo. Hit a Dog ( a Lab.) at speed crossed road into Ditch ?? Greg states the Trailer kept the Bike up and he truly believes the Trailer saved he and his wife's life. This Bloke owns a Truck co. I believe he would know what he is talking about. Our trailers are un Braked by the Way. Have I bored you? Stiff! (Giggle) Big Jim.( 3 bms + a total of over 360,ooo ks. yes I have earnt an opinion). Cheers. :beerjug:

Funduro and Trailer? Yep no probs.

Hey Smelly,
I'm off to a Rally this weekend I will search for a bloke down here who runs a 'Fun-duro' and an Ultra Lite -Classic Trailers(Aus. made). He was one that talked me into it. Remember you moving your gear onto an axle. But you still have to pull it? Don't over Load! Test the Tow Ball wieght by hand, should be lite ( I was told under 10 kilos). Leave the sink at home, enjoy a light bike! My GS11 is a better Ride with the Trailer than with out and yes while Passing a VFR through a corner at 165km per hr. His comment " I looked and I thought this guy is mad? Then you had a Bloody trailer? I give up"? My e-mail. [email protected]
Bye Mate. Big Jim. :beerjug:
