To be fair, wouldn't you see a lot (relatively) of swarf in a new drive, due to the gears "wearing in"? Another reason why I think it's a good idea to change the oil occasionally.

Yes I agree, but one piece was 4mm x 1mm another 2x1 and dead flat as if it had already been through the gears! Plus lots of silvery flakes (which I would regard as possibly normal)

Perhaps somebody will produce a magnet or magnetic plug to keep these bits and bobs in one place. Has anybody had a look inside the FD yet?
