This is really annoying. I have everything set up, latest firmware, maps etc. Now I can only get the maps on basecamp with my Nav IV plugged in.

How do I get the maps to install on Basecamp? Can't see any options in Express - this only allows me to do things with the Nav IV. Mapinstall doesn't have any options other than the Nav IV.

Frustrated :anger::anger

You have to use MapInstall (it will probably tell you only 2013.4 is available but go through the motions and further through it will allow you to install new Maps to both Device and PC / Mac)

MapInstall just says "No unlocked maps were found for this device". Everything is registered. Grrrrrrr

Sorry but you have to install on both PC and Device again Express only updates device (There are that many programs I get lost so could be MapManager??)
You have to install again on both device and PC to allow the unlock to work - Theres loads of info on this Garmin problem on the forum elsewhere.

I had the same - Just installed City Nav 2014.1 on both PC and Device (choose just UK and ROI for speed then use MapInstaller to add the Map tiles you want)

Then everything matches and Maps are fully unlocked - it will leave you with the option of Global or CityNav 2014.1 on Basecamp so you can create routes without being plugged in to device.

I've read somewhere that a Garmin Express update at the end of this year will install maps to device and Basecamp This is because of users problems having to plug their device into a computer to create routes or using outdated Garmin software to put maps onto their computer.

So, I've got it sorted. Must have wasted 4-5hrs of my life in frustration however.

The mistake I made was not to use Garmin Express, but just to install everything straight onto my GPS. To get the maps onto my mac I had to do the following:

1) In Express go to re-install maps
2) Rather than select installing all to the SD card, which is shown as being recommended, select the other option which allows you to select only some of the maps.
3) Select just the UK section of the map to install, this will then give you the option to install on the GPS, Computer or GPS and Computer, I chose the last option.
4) When you've installed this, you should find that all the maps are on BaseCamp (Euro wide).
5) Then use Garmin MapInstaller to install all the maps to your SD card.

This then leaves you with all maps on the GPS and all maps on BaseCamp. Simple.

None of it makes any sense. I assume that Garmin will continue to update software to create ongoing confusion.

With all these problems I cant be bothered about getting maps onto my computer, easier just to plug Satnav into computer just as Garmin intended us to do and work off the one & only map. My downloads are way too slow to sort it out. My broadband runs on steam.

Having downloaded the maps once to the unit, I'm fairly sure that the maps were already on the computer. As soon as I'd selected the right options in Garmin Express the maps were instantly available on the computer - it appears they were just unlocked.

One small point of order from your pedant in exile. You don't download maps into Basecamp, they are downloaded to a file on your computer. Basecamp looks in this file to find maps it can use. If you have both Basecamp and Mapsource (as I do) you will see that all maps are available for both. If maps were downloaded into Basecamp this would not be possible.
