Hi all.
I'm a new GS owner ('95 R1100) and I am thoroughly enjoying not having to grovel around on my hands and knees oiling a chain every few days.... great.
But I wonder if all is OK in the final drive - I have been experiencing a metallic tapping through the right side footpeg. It happens when accelerating in low gear out of a roundabout or similar. Usually just a single tap which I feel through the RHS footpeg rather than hearing it, a bit like the sensation of someone tapping the footpeg once with a small hammer. Nothing obviously loose when inspected externally. Just wondering if there are any particularly common Beemer final drive problems which may be causing this before I start taking things apart.....
While I'm on - how much clutch noise is normal with a dry clutch? When moving slowly through traffic I get a faint though audible "clack" each time I disengage the clutch (pull the lever back to the bar) in 1st gear. Seems less noticable when the engine's warm. Anyway, thanks for looking and would greatly appreciate any advice you could offer...
Cheers for now
C.

The clack from the clutch is normal if you let it out sharply. No idea what the ticking noise is, does the rate increase with engine revs?

Hi, cheers for the clutch advice - only had a wet clutch before....

The tapping that I get on RHS isnt continuous. Just a single tap which I feel through the footpeg when accelerating. Might happen again at the next roundabout, or might not.
Any thoughts?
Cheers for now,
C.
