Got a rumble in the transmission on tickover in neutral which can disappear on pulling the clutch in and on occasions disappears on letting the clutch out sharply in neutral.

Furthermore, on taking up the drive in a gentle manner whilst filtering etc, I can hear the same noise exaggerated by the slowthrottle on-off.

Checked gearbox oil - perfect - clean with no metal bits etc.

Is this normal or is it Age? Bearing?

I'm no expert by any means but I'd be thinking in terms of a release bearing first.

There may be excessive wear at the gearbox input shaft splines where it goes into the clutch friction plate causing a noise.:(

Colban is right, it is usually wear on the splines, a nice smooth tickover minimises it, mine has rattled for years with no problems, the air head I had before rattled as well. "they all do that sir".

Rumble in the "jungle"

If you do hear it on yours, don't leave it ............... clutch collapsed Tuesday!!
