So following the advice on here - ( thanks guys) I have got a couple of quotes from M&S and the post office for a trip to Europe in July. Neither of them asked what kind of trip it was - I.e. on a motorbike - which I find a bit of a surprise. Surely that should be a consideration - or should I say "justification" for an increased premium? :augie

Or have I missed the all important small print !!

I think they all work on the "we just want your money" basis and if it all goes wrong then they say ooh we don't cover you for that and you never tolds us!,i am always asked to I want travel Ins and when I reply do you cover motorcyclist it all goes quiet, same for life and accident Ins.assume that they NEED to be told first so they have all the relevant information

Simples.
Post office travel insurance booklet, page 8. A whole page explaining what sports they cover, in alphabetical order.

Under "D" ; Driving or riding on a motorcycle or moped.

And in case you missed that have a look under "M".

Under "M" is motorcycling ; Motorcycling (covered) - but not racing or competeing.

In the smaller, small, very small print you'll also find that it points out it doesn't cover your lliability while riding a motorcycling -your motorcycle insurance covers you for that.

And if you feel like a spot of gorrilla trekking while away you're even covered for that as well.

I use carol Nash it's bike specific and covers your gear as well, not sure ordinary ones do to the same degree?

AXA Insurance underwrites a lot of travel ins. including M&S and from

General exclusions relating to all
sections of the policy.
Paragraph 6.
Your engagement in or practice of the following, unless You have received Our prior agreement in writing:
manual work in connection with a profession business or trade, professional entertainment, flying except as a fare paying passenger in a fully-licensed passenger carrying aircraft, the use of a moped, motorcycle, car, van, lorry or similar motorised vehicle unless a full United Kingdom driving licence is held permitting the use of such vehicles in the United Kingdom and in the case of a moped or motorcycle, You and Your passenger are wearing a helmet.

Many exclude motorcycling, others let you hire a death-ped, even if you have no full bike licence, are 16 years old and plan to ride flat out down Kavos high street in a T-Shirt, but your own bike you have experience with a a licence to ride - no way!

I have used Post Office in the past, just make sure you check every time as they have a habit of altering terms frequently.

Same goes for many other sports and activities, and sometimes the cover is very limited - like covering you on a moped, but not a motorcycle, so read the small print carefully.
