Hey JethroDog
you could base yourself in Dublin, but you would end up having very long days on the bike criss-crossing the country to see stuff.. and Ireland is WORLD famous for rain when you don't need it
I suppose its a case of deciding where and what you want to see..
google maps are fairly accurate for Ireland... but due to the nature of the irish roads it can take longer to get there than you think
Dublin its not very far from anywhere in Ireland
Galway - Dublin = 2hours approx
Cork - Dublin = 2.5 hours approx
Kerry - Dublin = 5 hours approx
Mayo - Dublin = 5 hours approx
Belfast - Dublin = 2 hours approx
Donegal - Dublin = 5 hours approx
Best bits of Ireland for most people would be a selection of the following
Glendalough / Sally Gap - East coast 40 kms south of dublin
Wexford/Waterford - 140 kms south-east of dublin
Curracloe - beach where saving private ryan was filmed
Cork/Kerry
Ring of Kerry
Kerry Peninsula
Derrynane house on the Iveragh peninsula ( Daniel O Connell who the street main street in Dublin is named after lived here...)
Clare
the Burren
Galway
Aran Islands
Galway city
if there is anything specific I can help you with .. please let me know
