Over the last 4 years I have read most of the bike trip reports. Much information and entertainment has been forthcoming
Whilst I don't think I can reach the heady heights of some, this will either give some inspiration and/or gentle reading or bore the its off you

I don't think I could do an 'on the the fly one', as I the phone keyboard would defeat me and the text make no sense. So it is retrospective and on the PC, so I can see what the hell I am putting out there

Apart from Dublin, I had never visited the Republic before. So this was a little tester for the forthcoming half WAW and NI in June.
So what was a light hearted trip became a gem of a trip in its own right. Fantastic area.

This trip started out as a solo tour for 4 days / 3 nights to the Wicklow / Wexford / Waterford area. Booked in September 2023.
We have a group bike trip every year, 6 to 8 of us, since 2003 (obviously covid fucked up a couple of years). Slowly over the winter another joined in, then another, then eventually there were five of us out the normal group of eight.

Start off from Wrexham to Holyhead for the ferry, reasonable set off time on the Tuesday - 5.30am to collect the other 4 and get to the port for 7.45
Great start....it is pissing it down and has been all night. Spray on the roads and the standing water are character building

Black Cat garage Conwy is the meeting point. 1st there...sorry couldn't find a Starbucks

Weather starts to clear and by the time we get to Holyhead, it is drying out

Out of Holyhead

Into Dublin, what a difference in 4 hours

Had a nice little route to the hotel

I had picked the Woodenbridge Hotel for 3 nights as it was a good position for some great roads

https://www.woodenbridgehotel.com/

Stayed in the Lodge part, across the road from the main hotel. Lovely rooms, clean, great shower
Looking out over the river Aughrim and great parking for the bikes
45 second walk over the road to the main hotel for food

We ate at the hotel, breakfast was included. Nice selection of simple food in the bar of an evening
Some light entertainment

Day 2

15 6 24.jpg

Weather was OK, temperature was up and down but no waterproofs needed

Outside The Lodge

The main hotel over the road

20240515_081426.jpg

Off to Arklow with a quick spurt of motorway to Courtstown then the 742. Tried to keep as close to the coast as I could.
Short bit on the 741 then crossing the bridge into Wexford
Then the R739, R736, R733 to the passage East ferry over the River Suir crossing from County Wexford into County Waterford

20240515_125949.jpg

20240515_130613.jpg

Then through Dunmore East and onto Tramore

Tramore is a proper seaside town. The sun went in and the temperatures dropped, still, always time for an ice cream

Back to Waterford itself. Lovely City

The roads back to the hotel were functionary N25, N30 until we got onto the R748, R746 and the R747 which was a lovely road right back to the hotel.

Can't find any food pics for the evening, but it would have followed the previous evening

178 miles done - Hopefully got the road number right

Day 3

Todays route was saved on the promise of nice weather.......and it was

Live weather report on the day

The Wicklow Mountains sort of figure of eight-ish.
The area didn't disappoint

Glenmacnass Waterfall

1st crossing of the Sally Gap

A visit to the German Cemetary at Glencree
Fascinating place. There is a barracks there that is now a peace and reconciliation centre. The Armoury cafe there does lovely cakes
I think the surrounding roads are 'military roads' from way back, as was the barracks

More of day 3 to follow.........

Day 3 continued.....

Next was the 'Guinness Lake', Lough Tay.

Stunning it was.....

Believe it has been used for quite a bit of location filming including the series Vikings, if anyone has watched it. Used as Kattegat village

The roads are not too shabby either

20240516_131147.jpg

Back over the Sally Gap in a north westerly direction towards Kilbride then onto the R758 and around and over past Boystown (Nearly a boy band) onto the R756
Stopped at Laragh on the way back to the hotel, nice coffee at hotel on the multiple junction, watching the world and lots of tourist coaches going past We seemed to miss all the coaches when moving

20240516_142801.jpg

The Woodenbridge Lodge has an outdoor smokehouse, so we gave that a go
The steaks looked wonderful but as I avoid red meat as much as I can as it sets my guts off, I had one of the best chicken burgers I've had in a long time

20240516_175440.jpg

20240516_185436.jpg

That was 110 miles and those miles filled the day

Day 4

Set off for home, occasional light rain but OK

17 6 24 part 1.jpg

Traffic round Dublin was horrendous

20240517_124501.jpg

Bit of weather reversal this time. It was nice enough at Holyhead that I gave the A55 a miss and took the A5 all the way to Llangollen
Minimal traffic, really enjoyed it

Llyn Ogwen pit stop

20240521_170538.jpg

A very good trip, beautiful places, lovely people. Cannot recommend it enough (Better if it's not raining)

Thanks Micky
It's a hotel I would definitely use again :thumb2

There is an excellent restaurant in Laragh called The Wicklow Heather. It also offers accommodation and both are to a very high standard at a very reasonable price. Have settled in some UK bike mates there and also stayed over myself. Highly recommended.
