Trip To Rome Advice Wanted

Excellent advice the route through Mulhouse, Luzern, Milan is my go to when going down to Tuscany by car every few years. (1100 miles in total).

We love stopping in Colmar on both ways...

I'd love to ride down, but not in summer... Too hot!

I remember when I drove my classic beetle from Tuscany to Bristol, after Colmar we climbed the Col du Bonhomme. https://maps.app.goo.gl/43L9SMBem8v26g5k8
I was getting away from the traffic in the Twisties, so it should be good fun on a GS!
Roads seem to be nice over there.

Also on another topic, my wife loves the Gewürztraminer white wine from Colmar. Definitely recommended! Cheap and cheerful in the Carrefour local.

We drive down twice every year ,
First night we stop Troyes, head to Frejus tunnel but head over the pass through the mountains just before and stayed in Lanselbourg mont Cenis. Headed over around Torino cut down through the Alta Langhe and head on down via Savona,Genoa.
Loads of good places to stay and eat in Troyes, the centre is beautiful.Lanselbourg we have stayed in an hotel with good food and not too pricey but there is a biker place next door with apartments and have been recommended a better hotel over the road by a local friend.....I can find the name given time. Stop for coffee at the top by the lake, stunning.....onwards I have driven to Rome but only on the motorway so not much useful info.
Over the years we have overnighted at loads of towns but this way suits our driving hours.....usually a 6.5 hours drive turning into 8 hours Inc stops.
Handy to read this,I'm off down to Anzio in August, have allowed 3 days riding to get there. Trying to work out how to do it without going through Monte Blanc tunnel.Worth a serious consideration for me.Do you have any of the hotels you stayed in,thanks.

We always go via Val Cenis rather than the tunnel, and have used this hotel when it was owned by SNOWCOACH before it was sold on to the current owners. It’s recommended in the Relais-Motards.com app as particularly good for motorcyclists and has garage parking for your bike.

Hello Steve:ROFLMAO:

Now you've posted that clearer map,it makes sense, rather than the other 1 I saw.I was looking around Monte Blanc for that route,it's bloody south of it,no wonder i couldn't find it.Right, thats the route I'll be taking down to Anzio, just have to get the timings sorted out.

Pick the bike up from Vines on Saturday.

As above. Moncenisio is a nice ride or drive.

Or you can cross from Briançon.

If you are going down to Anzio, might make sense to detour towards Genova and then ride down through Tuscany closer to the sea.
Direct route: Aurelia, instead of doing the A1 motorway. Both with tons of curvy detours.

We stayed in the Deux Cola it was ok...but our friend who has a cafe at the top ,La Savoie, above the lake highly recommended this place so will be trying it soon.

If you have time there are some beautiful roads down through the Alta Langhe from Alba down to Murazzano riding throught the steep vineyards.....on to Savona, Genova etc.

Remember, the weather may not be all sun and heat in early June and some high passes may still be closed.

Cheers Jasp, ive just checked the route and timings from Calais(tunnel)Whilst it is now the route I'm going to take, the location just doesn't sit right with me timings, unless I go a day early(and that is a good possibility) 👍

Jasp, how did you book this hotel.I've tried there website(no joy)sent 2 emails(no reply)I have now added 2 extra days to the trip so will definitely be staying in the area.I've looked at Steve's suggestion via booking.com and would ideally like to compare the prices(gets expensive when a lone rider)Thanks for any and all suggestions/help.

Or having just reread your comments, you've yet to stay there.

Given it’s location, it might well be shut at the moment.

Give them a call perhaps?
I did think that, but the area seems to be open for skiing and the like(and it offers winter opening)I shall try a call tomorrow and hope they speak better English than I do French.
