Trip Up North

Nice one, cheers for posting.:thumb I'll be up there in 3 weeks.:beerjug: Is it true about all the speed cameras and average limits up there?

On the routes I took. I didn't see any static speed cameras or mobile speed cameras or cops. Hopefully I am not blind and have a letter winging its way to me with a fine. I did see a lot of speed restriction signs (40 or 50 mph) but no physical backing up of them.

What did kill my progress was all the little towns that I went through. Much like traveling in France in the 80s to avoid Toll roads if you know what I mean.

Snowpoles can be seen at the side of the road ahead. This would be a good Tour of France type of cycling road.

It's gonna be, it's part of the York to Sheffield stage in next year's tour :thumb2

Yep

Helicopter enforced on Sundays in the Peaks

Speed camera Vans in the Dales on Saturdays

Only if you're unlucky & on popular routes

Every time I go to the Peak District on a weekend there's a camera van camped just over the crest of a long straight on the A57 next to Ladybower reservoir enforcing the ridiculous 50mph limit. There's sometimes a traffic car with it just in case the you decide to stop and hide your number plate/perform a U-turn.

Elsewhere, there's ridiculous speed limits on wide open country road with excellent visibility and the traffics horrendous unless you stick to tiny back roads (which are good, but sometimes it's nice to enjoy a fast, twisty A-road).

My advice - stay north of the M62 or head into Wales :thumb2

All sadly true

Lovely roads and glad you enjoyed the ride, but why go scratchin' with the boxes on? They would not have done your averages any good. :nenau
