Tiger Explorer 1200 (2013) - 85k miles - £1500

Well-maintained and regularly serviced High Mileage Tiger Explorer 1200 - with one or two issues. I've owned this bike since August 2022, and it has been my daily rider since that time. I've decided to treat myself to something a bit newer, so the time has come to put it up for sale.

The Explorer comes with:
  • Panniers (the top box in the pics is not included)
  • Tank bag with quick release
  • Switched Electric satnav feed for a Carpuride or similar
  • Front and Rear Dash Cams
  • 12v Din socket
  • Thunderbox clone under the tank
  • Cool covers
  • Touring screen
  • Cruise control
  • Heated grips
  • Heated seat (Original seat provided)
  • Arrow silencer (Original included)
  • Rear hugger (small crack in it)
  • Shock sock
  • Led spots
  • Recent(ish) valve service
  • New(ish) rear shock
  • New(ish) drive shaft
There's a load of history with the bike. I've set the service interval so you get the reminder spanner on the dash every 6k, rather than every 10k miles. This means I change the oil and filter at least twice a year, using Castrol Power 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 Motorcycle Oil.

The bike returns a steady 49mpg on supermarket E10.
It's just approaching 85k miles.

15/02/2026 83,274 Fairing bolts (front mudguard)

The bad bits:
  • Second gear skips under heavy acceleration (suspected worn dogs). This is a common fault with higher mileage Explorers and needs the gearbox pulling and the cog replacing. I'd probably throw in new clutch plates and replace the clutch fluid if I was doing this job. From what I've read, it's a straightforward enough fix, but a bit time-consuming. The bike is still rideable, you've just got to be gentle with second.
  • It's started to need the oil topping up once or twice between services (a small amount every 2 or 3 thousand miles - there are no oil leaks).
  • Some of the bodywork / lugs are getting a bit brittle with age. A few small cracks on the inside when you get the plastics off - some repaired with epoxy. Nothing I can't live with, but worth mentioning.
  • Ignition barrel replaced - hence different key to the seat/panniers.
  • A few scrapes on engine bars, hand guards and fairing.

Having borrowed one of these to commute to work recently, potentially a bargain there but I'd like to keep my license 😇 GLWS
