I've just got back from my 1st long ride-out on my 12GS (2225 miles) and although I'm happy with my luggage set up next time I''d like to tour with the rear seat removed & a luggage rack fitted there to support a tail pack.

I'm currently using a Givi back box so any luggage plate fitted to the rear seat area would also have to avoid hindering the top box, i.e. the original grey plastic 'rack' will also be fitted.

Does anyone use Touratech's luggage rack? 044-0425
Can this be fitted with the original plastic rack in situ?
I'm looking at buying one (£124) but then I had the thought...why not buy a 2nd hand damaged rear seat & rip the cover & foam off. I could strap packs to this base maybe?

Just a thought, what d'yer think?
Go the TT route & look smart or cannibalise an old seat?

Why not buy one of these £75

Why fit a rack. I just take off the seat and there is a perfectly good rack underneath anyway.

Andy, my tail pack has a velcro strap that would wrap around the seat/rack, with the seat removed I don't fancy wrapping this under the sub-frame.
Also, with the seat removed & my original panniers fitted there are very few places to hook a bungee, a luggage plate would make an ideal securing place.

I'll give it a 2nd look though! :thumb2

Why not just fit the tailpack onto the pillion seat. If necessary, you can also put a cargo net over it to keep it secure. Thus....
