went to download and install but im getting the error message there are no maps istalled to add these poi's to so wont update?

ther is an sd card installed and i can browse the maps no problem on the tt screen, also when i connect the tt to my laptop and try to "view" the tt i get the same message....no maps installed

the destructions are clear as mud and im hopless and electric gadgets..gimme nuts and bolts any day

any help would be greatly appreciated ( i can connect the headset and my phone to it no problem )

No expert on TomTom but do they have a basemap (basic, not very detailed, underlying map), like Garmin do. Maybe that's what you can see on screen and there aren't any detailed maps installed :nenau

If you zoom in to a town are all the side roads there?

hi,

yes ive zomed right in on my house and it shows all the small side streets etc in the surrounding area.

Go back to the lad you bought it off and ask him to show you how to get the maps to show.

It should boot to one of the maps depending on how its been set up.

Nothing fancy needs doing with the TT2.

Are the maps legit, eg registered to the unit and on Tomtoms database?

If they weren't I doubt they'd show up and be eligible for upgrading. Maybe worth asking said mate in a tactful manner ??

the maps work on the tom tom, i can zoom in and out, calculate routes etc but it would not download updates.

just in from work now and asked him about he, he says you need to pay? to update maps etc, says he has never registered the tom tom or updated it and used some thing called TYRE to plan routes etc.

I have TTrider2. Had exactly the same problem when it was new out of the box. Raised a support question and eventually was told that I needed to download a complete new map... Well I was completely taken aback as the unit worked fine...Cured the problem after new map downloaded...

However It was under warranty so hence new map with no problems...

You also need to make sure there's enough memory on the SD card for all the updates you want ot install, because if you haven't & it can't finish the install, you can lose everything .........Don't ask me how I found that out :blast

thanks for the reply's.

ive just gotten it hard wired to the bike today so havn't had too much time to mess around with it,.

i managed to get it synced to my lap top and i had to download an update for tom tom home.

soon as that took place i hit back up which took bloody ages

after this i accessed the menus via the lap top, all i really did was delete the thirty or so "other" languages that im never going to need and that freed some space up, straight away the downloads i wanted landed and installed

just the speed camera ones in the uk for now.

anyway it seems to be working fine and im off for a toby tommorow to see how it works, cant get the bluetooth speakers to wor with my phone though but as it would only be my other half ringing im not that bothered:blagblah

cheers
Andy

I have exactly the same issues. Currently speaking to TomTom specialist and he is talking to their chaps and they think there is an error:blast
This guy is really helpful and he said we may have to unistall everything but don't worry he will ensure I get it all back???
I'll let you know what happens
