TT Tank Guard for 1150GSA

Anybody use one?

Thinking of getting one to protect the white 1150GSA tank.
Worth the cash? Or is there something better on the market/home made?

No, but have you noticed the tank is on a 1100's frame?

The gearbox strengthening plate can just be seen if I'm right.

No.. don't like the look of that.. is simply stuck on bling. I had my tank resprayed white(ish).. and even if these were available for the 24L - I wouldn't bother.

Correct engine bars will protect the tank.. and leave your lovely paint job unsullied.

Its no wonder GSers have a reputation as being magpies when there is unnecessary cr*p like this for sale (at a no doubt ridiculous price). If you're that worried about it, put some book covering film over that section and a bagster on top. Or just don't ride it

Don't have engine bars on the bike and don't want them. Have steptoes headguards.

Just figured that if I dropped the bike it would naturally rest on the side of the tank.

No interest in a baglux cover.

You'll find that with the bike the steptoe head guards will protect the tank more than the engine bars.

The engine bars have a habit of trying to make the bike go turtle.

just thought engine bars would keep the tank higher off the ground... didn't think of the flipping thing... flipping!!

These work, but only if your doing a bit, the adventure tank does stick out a lot but really need to be put under a baglux cover makes it a poor fit but saved my tank in a few bangs during an end to end of Alaska to cape horn.
For serious abuse like this they are worth it.

Yes (well a pair actually).

They saved my tank from serious damage in an incident where another GSA had a very deep (almost punctured) dent.

If you do buy a pair, send me a message and I'll tell you how to make them fit decently (the double-sided stuff TT supply is next to useless).

I'll put a post up in the wanted section and see if anytone has a used set for sale before I part with £75 to TT.....

Mike, I'd be interested to know how you stick yours on-I'm using velcro for a bit more filling between the tank and the guard but I'm not convinced its going to hold through winter.

Those two pictures illustrate exactly what they are for. The big Adventure tank isn't protected by the headguards if it rolls and these help. Putting them under a Baglux helps with the looks...

My first attempt saw me use the included strips of double-sided tape. Over night one managed to fall off!

I then went to Brown Brothers and bought a tube of black body seam-filler (they also sell some reels of strong double sided tape. Very useful stuff, it can be used to re-cycle P-Clips once you peel off the original sticky and you can turn plain velcro into strong sticky type).

I used the better double-sided tape and then a bead of the body-seam goo (it's just like a black silicone).

The crucial bit though is to mould the guards a bit better than when they come out of the wrapper.

I used a hot-air gun to warm the areas that didn't quite match the tank shape, then just bent it to fit. You could just use hot water but let the plastic cool and check the fit before fixing them with the tape and goo.

I used the goo primarily to seal out water and dust. After three years and some abuse, they are still there and have a few marks that would otherwise be through the paint on the tank.
