I'm curiuous about how KTM have gone about this. I'd read that they'd introduced them - but when I was at a local dealers I couldn't help but notice that the spoked wheels looked a bit um, conventional. Surely bwm's patent must be up by now.

Aprilia used the same system. So either they were paying bmw or they own the patent and bm were paying them. The old f650 was built by aprilia it has been said. JJH

Imagine rim tape. Then imagine rim tape about 120mm wide and 5mm thick and then you have your answer :clap

Similar in many ways to this although the KTM item is more like vary thick/wide rim tape :D

A-ha.

One more: Does KTM's uber rim tape have a 'use by' date / do you have to re-new from time to time?

I don't know the answer or if KTM advise on replacement on time/mileage etc?

Having seen one up close I doubt it is likely to perish anytime soon

What about the valve? Does it just fit in the hole or is there any adaptor? JJH

I'm sure I read somewhere (could have been KTM marketing spin bollox) that there was an advantage of keeping the spokes central rather that out towards the rim. Dunno what the advantage would be though .....

Hmm. One for the physicists.

Even I 'get' that wheelbuilders would be easier to find, though.
