How do I selectively turn off/hide the icon symbols of items that I am not interested in? My TomTom units had a menu page for that.

I wondered the same thing cos I've no interest in seeing every petrol station (etc) on or near my route
But it would appear nobody knows :nenau

RTFM is not helpful - as all it says is Customising the Map Layers | Select the layers to include on the map. The choice is Places along the road, and that seems to turn off everything - not selectively (like TomTom manages).

Proximity Alerts: Sets the type of proximity points for which alerts are played.
I have a choice of Garmin Safety Camera, so does not apply.

It might have helped if you had told us you have looked n the manual in the first place! I wonder if changing the level of map detail helps. Could you say which sort of ions are causing you distress?

Look under settings/ proximity points
I'll try that tonight, cheers :beerjug:

It sounds like that's what I want :thumb
I don't see the point in having all sorts of stuff (petrol stations, fast food joints) on the screen all the time.
If I need fuel I can do a search :D

Now I just need to figure how I can get the maps that I wiped the other day back on the thing :blast
Mapsource & a Quest was soooo much easier....

Try going into: Settings, Map & Vehicle, Map Layers and then uncheck "Places along the road

some one beat me to it

Just carry on using Mapsource

First time I connected N5 to Mapsource it didn't want to know
But I saw your comment elsewhere about leaving it in mass storage mode so I'll have to try that....

Volume screen, press top right corner and you get a whole range of options. Works on all the later Garmins
