(not sure which section to put this. Please move if there's a better forum).

I'm building a new garage. Soon to pour the concrete plate. My plan is to leave a 1. 5m diameter hole ready for a turntable. But I'm wondering if I'm missing any other possibilities? The plan is for the tt to be tiled, flush with the entire floor, so when the bike isn't there, you have maximum, uninterrupted floor space. So I ride in, turn the bike and ride out.

Anyone solved the same problem in a different way?

Cheers

Thats a big expense for a turntable when there are smaller more manoverable types avaliable. Hoever if you are determined to make a hole in your garage floor then I'd be tempted to fit a bike lift table in that space instead..

Turntable options? - you'll struggle to beat Technics 1210's for value for money ;)

The problem with a TT is the wasted space around it that you'll need to keep free. There are lots of better options like spinning it around outside and reversing it in. Flatdog's suggestion is definitely a peach...

I have solved the problem of fitting the GS in the garage with one of these I can now put the bike on this and move it around to suit. I guess you could turn the bike on it too but there is too much other stuff in my garage to allow that.

There are cheaper versions available but this one is well made and is rated for 300 kgs

Yes thats what I have, its great as you can push the bike up against the wall when not used.

I too have the constands dolly the grey one has and it definitely makes things a lot easier and as flatdog says it makes it easy to push your bike up against a wall or into a confined space

Thanks for the feedback gents. I should have said, I've got loads of space, it's 8m wide . Saying that, it was exactly John's suggestion when I was thinking of other possibilities. I just don't know what's out there. Admittedly, being able to push the bike to one side is very appealing.

If you do decide to get a dolly beware that some don't have the load capacity of the constands one. I use a small length of tube on the arm of the the dolly when I apply the brake before pushing the bike off it which makes things easier.

Thanks for this. Useful advice

Shuttering is up and concrete all booked. I'm warming to the idea of some kind of dolly, simply because it slotted me to maximise the floor space while the moto is parked up.

But are there any other options for the dolly? I'm on the edge of designing one. There are some features that irritate me about the existing. Mostly the detail that the unit is fairly mobile, even when it's not meant to be. I want it to be a part of the floor, until I decide it's meant to be mobile... Or am I still missing something? Are there 'mobile' lift benched out there?

Thanks again

My dolly has a lever which stops it moving at all, useful when trying to untighten that stubborn nut!

Gents. Thanks for all your feedback. It was sufficient for me to get searching properly.

Result? No turntable going in.
Reason? I can buy a ramp/lift as already suggested. This means I can push the bike right out of the way to maximise the floor space

It took me a little while to persuade myself, but the idea of having a lift thrown into the bargain for servicing was the clincher. It will dictate what I cover the floor with (so the loaded unit can be pushed around), but that's the easy bit!

Cheers
