My 1150 Rockster seems to be a little low on power, a bit vibey and the header pipes have a blue tint to them. It also feels like a misfire.
Would i be correct to asume the set up is the same or close to the GS?.
I should mention the bike has a de-cat and a quill exhaust and as far as i know it has no ECU mods.
I was told the exhaust could cause it to run lean, could the blue pipes be a symptom?
The bike is new to me so i am gradually catching up with the servicing.
On inspection of the plugs i noted that the right hand plugs were darker with a crusty appearence. On the left hand side they were a light grey, almost white shade.

Any suggestions out there, please

John

yes, same as GS, and exhaust mods can make them run very lean on full throttle.
running rough you say, a bit more info would help. could even be that what you think rough, is not at all

just to add.. blue downpipes are absolutely normal... not symptomatic of anything.

If you're mechanically competent.. buy a haynes and give the bike a full service. you can buy a kit.. including all you need except fluids from Motorworks. link at the top of the page.

Otherwise find a local independent to do it for you. This post might be handy if thats your choice:http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?p=901341

Rockster blues

Thanks for that guys.
I think i am leaning more towards the misfire theory and the fact that i will also need to modify the ECU.
I purchased a manual on cd but the wrong one was supplied, so i have been set back slightly.
At the moment i am unfamiliar with the configuration of the ignition system, but it looks as though it may have indipendant coils. Is that correct?
Are they prone to coil problems?
I intend to catch up with servicing, which might sort it if i'm lucky.
I have owned two 1100s's, and found them much smoother to ride. But i know little about the 1150 T' sparks.
Any reccomendations on ECU mods would be appreciated.

Regards

John

Hi John. The usual cause of misfiring on a twinspark motor is the plugstick(coil/cap assy);do a search for an easy test method from Steptoe.
You might also want to check out "CCP mods" (that's Cat Code Plug)or how to change the fuelling in the ECU with a jumper.

Hi Jon

I have an 03 twin spark Rockster - I run this with a y - piece cat eliminator and a straight through Remus end can and have had no problems at all - except for the fuel consumption - but I put that down to my riding style :augie

I have an 03 twin spark GS with a Y piece and Remus, mine started to run rough last summer out of the blue. Turned out to be a coil pack, the're about £25.00 each.

John, I've got an 1150GS Twin-spark and had exactly the same issues when I removed the cat and replaced it with a Remus Y piece. I replaced the cat and it returned to even, smooth and misfire free running. Try that first. I got rid of the Y piece because of the misfiring issues. I was happy to suffer the added weight of the cat and have a smooth running bike !

Coil pack £25 each:augie

pray tell where you bought them from at that price?

I was just thinking the same and thinking about making a bulk order to flog on at 20 quid a pop mark up and still look like the most generous bloke around with a guaranteed order list :D

My 03 1150 had a misfire at 5,500 and solved with the replacement of the coil packs

indeed at about £60 ish a pop.

Are the new ones better made, as I read on here thatt hey are the same as the 1200 type.

Anyone know the truth of my statement?

£65 from Benhams

Yes they are the same as the ones used for 1200's

one of mine packed up causing rough running/misfire/difficulty in starting

try testing before buying

Bigyin - Coilpack down

Thats a coincidence! Mine is an 03 twinspark and is missing (flatspot) at 5500 revs, have been advised it may be a coilpack, am having it checked tomorrow so hopefully it will be sorted. Good info mate! :comfort

Cheers
