Twin spark on a 1150GS

Hi,
I'm about to buy my first GS, it will be a 1150.
I keep hearing about a "twin spark" model, I understand the concept of Twin spark but How do I identify which year GS, started with twin spark or do they all come like that?

Also which is best?
Many thanks for any help or thoughts on the issue

AFAIK twin spark 1150's came in 2003. The rocker covers say twin spark or take a peek under the pots to see the second spark plug.

I believe they were introduced to deal with surging at low throttle settings or some such, which some bikes have suffered.

My 1150 is a single spark and having ridden a twin spark I couldn't tell any difference when riding them back to back. I suppose the servicing will cost a few quid more but that's about it

S'easy,if it's a single spark per cylinder then you should have a black plastic strip run all the way from the front to the back of each rocker cover this is the access to the sparkplug

On the Twin Spark model the Plastic strip only goes from halfway and is sort of tadpole shaped with the tail to the rear

I think 2003 was the first of them but if you look at it you can plainly see what's what

I thought it was for emmissions that the twin spark was developed. makes NO difference to performance.Find a good 1150, don't get hung up over single or twin sparks.Good hunting.

Correct. They don't even come in to play most of the time - IIRC they only burn off unspent fuel on the overrun above a certain RPM to keep the Yanks happy.
