Between one thing and another I'd really not had the chance to get some decent miles on the new 1200 so last Sunday I booked the ferry from Larne to Troon and headed off to reconnoiter parts of Scotland with no other plan than to be down in Glasgow for Wednesday morning.
Headed up towards Fort William and called in to the hostelry of one GC of this parish for an excellent lunch and a chat, scared the life out of him as I entered he looked at me, realisation dawned and he panicked realising he only had 4 cases of Smirnoff in the stock room. I put his mind at ease by informing him I was not stopping.
Decided to head up and have a look at Loch Ness, and taking GC's advice headed on to the left bank.
Thanks to the wonders of the Zumo I found a near by hostelry who had a room available and headed off for a bath some food and a few voddies before having an early night.
The Chef's special of the day was rather good, Morrocan Lamb.
Tuesday morning I headed up to Inverness where I had to make a decision. North or South? The toss of a coin had me heading North on the A9, destination John O Groates!
As I stopped for yet another photo opportunity, fag and pee break members of the local constabulary went by anxious to have a chat with another motorist……….
I traveled on at a sedate pace on a truly fantastic piece of road, the views were stunning.
Got to John O Groates and grabbed a coffee and sandwich at a local bar before heading South again, well I wanted to be North of Glasgow that evening.
On the return trip the sun really came out
The rain was not far away however as I passed Inverness heading South the heavens opened and I rode 140 miles in torrential rain, worth it though after such a fantastic day.
Made it to Stirling services about eight that evening, 535 miles covered that day and loved every one of them, even the rain. Will be heading back again believe me.
Just finishing off a little montage which I'll post shortly
