Whilst cruising down our wonderful Hume highway this morning along with all the other traffic sitting exactly on the 110 kmh speed limit (we have most enthusiastic revenue raisers ; they’ll book you for 3 kmh over), cruise control set to 117, I reset the average speed readout on my ‘17 TE and after half an hour or so the average speed read 110.2 kmh which, going by all the other traffic, had to be pretty close to the actual speed.
How can there be such a difference between the numbers of both readouts ?
Why didn’t the speedo read 110 ?
Why wasn’t the average 117 ?

Because you had to go from a standstill to get up to speed and you had to slow to stop. Just because your speedo reads 117 does not mean that you are doing 117. Speedos are seldom bang on and usually slightly over read on speed. Funnily enough most mileometer readings are pretty accurate.

Depends also on your tyre wear.
New tyres will show a different speed to tyres that have 2-3000 on them

Convert to mph so the difference is less :-)

Strewth Phil. There is clearly nothing average about your ride that day. Think back did something exciting happen during that half hour :comfort

If they book you for 3 km over the limit in a 110, why set the tempomat for 117?
