...probably leading to many answers...

2001 1150 GS

Firstly, any suggestions on how to get the sidestand pivot bolt out? It has a fair amount of play and I have a new bolt and bush to install. But it seems to be the shallowest T-50 Torx socket ever made so that the driver slips out very easily. I really don't want to mangle the head. Heat/impact driver?

Secondly, does anyone know where an older Meta Systems alarm module is likely to have been mounted? I have the tell-tale signs of one: a small self-contained red neon unit (about the size of a black one pound coin with a red neon poking out of the edge) above the instruments and one of the keys is built into a Meta Systems button unit. The key looks like an older car system to me and it doesn't work, even with a new battery in the key. I've propped the tank up and can't see anything under there - is there room for it to be installed behind the instruments? If I find it I want to rip it out.

Cheers

My stand has a bit of play too. Any chance you could let me know what parts you got and where from.
Thanks

You'll need to take the tank of to get to the alarm unit. Mine was mounted just forward of the EU and on top of everything else. If it was done properly, then it'll be hard to distinguish the wiring from the original loom.

Not had to remove one myself but I'd suggest taking your time so as not to damage the loom, which I suspect will be fairly rigid by now.

it is shallow so make sure its not full of muck

did mine recently, easy job as it loosened ok, order the wee circlip as well

tightened it up a lot as it was leaning at a severe angle before

bolt was approx £11
bush £ 4

Thanks all.

I'm just sourcing a 1/2" to 3/8" socket reducer so that I can mount the T-50 on my impact driver. Then I'll heat it up and give it a couple of taps.

All of the bits are available from M'works and I did even treat myself to a new washer and a circlip.

I'll trace the alarm location (if it's still there) from the neon backwards: I was just hoping for a shortcut. Better order a new fuel line quick release while I'm at it in case the tank has to come right off.

Just done my side stand as had the usual slop. You definitely need to heat the bolt. While I was lying down under the stand figuring out what to do I noticed the bracket that the side stand mount to was cracked at the weld so my advice is to check that as well. If anybody needs a sidestand bracket for an 1150 let me know as I have second hand one in great condition
