can i put a second sound card in my pc to run simultaeously with the onboard sound chip?

i'd like an output i can tape from. i initially thought i'd use the rear speaker socket but i can't get it to put out a signal from the stereo source i'm using.
if i use the front output or the speaker headphone socket, i can't hear what i'm doing.

would a 2nd sound card force me to turn off the on board processor do you think?

i'd just put one in & try it, but i don't have one lying around.

In my experience of having problems with an onboard and an installed sound card one HAD to be disabled.

Not that I'm an expert mind.

Interesting........my money's on it working but with IRQ conflict problems that will be more frustrating than it's worth.

You can stick in a PCI graphics card with an AGP card as well to run two monitors (ooooo have you seen the new gen SLI systems ? oops sorry, stay on track Oates..) so I can't see why it wouldn't work with sound.

HAving said that, nearly all the old problems with IRQ conficts came from the Sound cards, followed by modems, so it may well be a PITA.

Cookie, why don't you just stick in a 3.5 mil stereo splitter (heck, you may even have one for your autocom) and take one output to earphones and the other to your tape machine.

99p from Maplins, job done ;)
