Two-up RTW tour

1500 quid per bike and make sure they are the same model year etc

just saved you loads of cash, especially for the carnet....

20k sounds about right, I have spent four months in asia every year for the last five years as well as previous trips. we budget on 8k all in including flights, that's for a family of four btw.

Namaste......

Gokarna, Kutle beach 100 rupees a night for accommodation and about 50 rupees for a meal.... Beer is more but that's my problem:augie

Well I've resisted this for a couple of days but no longer. Let me give a shout for technology. Use the R1200GSA or R1150 GSA (non-servo)

A modern bike will use less fuel and give a better ride.

The older bikes are just that, older bikes and more liable to break down through wiring, stress and general tiredness. I have an immaculate R100GS PD but I wouldn't use this for two up trips.
The modern bike, that has new technology, also makes diagnosis of any problem so much easier. Witness the GS 911 device.
The only faults that stop you in your tracks with the R1200GS are the FPC and Antenna Ring; small parts and easy to carry as spares. Other spares for modern bikes are readily available and can be FedEx'd out to you.

The R1200GSA is by far the most comfortable for a pillion and this is just sooooooooo important.

If they are riding two bikes, they dont need a 1200GS.

two lighter cheaper bikes would be way better, funny how so many guys kid themselves into wanting such a large bike to travel along at such slow speeds.

Still there goes the 20k budget....

kiss

keep it simple and stupid, there is nowt wrong with two year 2000 650's at 1500 quid each, I would hardly consider that "old fashioned"

45Horses and able to cruise at 70mph where you can. And a damn site easier to pick up when you drop.

Plus in Asia and south America not so much to worry about when they are parked up.

See post #20.

I could see myself spending more time worrying about her than worrying about the road if she was on her own bike.
He wants to use one bike.:nenau

Hence my contribution.:)

OK, but still think its a bad choice. {I bet she'd worry more about him though, girls do make steady riders}

Just met here in Gokarna a Spanish lad on a KTM 640 Adventure....

He paid only 1200Euros for the Carnet.

Problems so far,

Fallen off and scratched the bodywork....
Electrical, one day to fix
Carburetor strip down

Sounds like a great bike, looks good too, I have a picture will post later....

BTW he used soft luggage, interesting choice here as I'd be worried about my stuff going for a walk...

id be worried too but there seems to be loads of people use soft luggage, i just wouldnt have the balls for it. Be a shame to ruin the trip cos o some git fancying all yer clothes.

Im using soft luggage with the gf around europe so fingers crossed it wont walk (got a top box for keeping the important stuff)
