i have been looking at some online vids of the ural sidecar rigs that have the ability to drive the sidecar wheel along with the rear wheel, just a thought, but would it be possible to somehow do the same with ,say a gs 1100/1150 ?
Anything is possible with proper $$$ resource, even buying the whole world
Ural is copy from BWM as it's is always been from the start (they make very unreliable copies tho). I think BM or BM enthusiasts first did the shaft going from rear weel to sidecar. I've seen 3 Bee Emms airheads travelling in Poland two years ago, all with sidecar drive support. It's strange to see them driving - the shaft just goes below the sidecar and you can see it rotating
With the new paralever you need to reconfigure the shaft bevel box and i guess it's a pretty complicated job to do on a paralever (you'll put forces out of balance connectiong the new perpendicular shaft and there's nowhere to fix in the centre) than regular two-way supported swing arm having a fixed centre(?)
go here..www.imz-ural.com and click on downloads there you will find the videos.
tsiklonaut you are quite right when you say that the urals are not known for their quality or reliability, especialy if you consider that travelling any distance here in europe you will sometimes just have to use high speed motorways or autobahns, i have just been thinking that a two wheel drive bwm boxer engined sidecar would be in ideal round the world bike , but as you say an airhead would make things a lot simpler.
