Depends what you want them to do, road riding only or a mix of gravel strewn tracks and roads or lots of off road.
I went down the 020 route as I only did road riding with the odd bumpy track and found them way better than the Anakees it came with originally.

Try e.bay or mytyres.com the latter you have to find a fitter but good company and good prices for cars and bikes

I found that dual sport tyres are just as crap as road tyres in the wet on Salisbury Plain. And road tyres are fine in the dry on Salisbury Plain. However, road tyres last longer on the road and are better in the wet than dual sports.
TKC's aren't worth it for me as I spend 99% of my time on the road, so I wait for the various online shops to do a deal and/or free delivery and order whatever's on offer.
At my level of riding, 020's/Azaro's/Storms/Road Attacks etc are much the same, so I get whatever looks like the best deal.
The Avon Azaro's on at present are just fine.

Why? Actual bad experience or just opinion?
I have just ordered another replacement pair of Battlewings from Roundandblack - 180 GBP incuding VAT and shipping. I really like them and although I'm not getting exceptional mileage (anticipate about 5.5 K for the rear), I prefer grip to wear. Mostly on the road riding but want the option of the occassional trip up a lane or two.
I've recently had a set of Anakee 2's fitted replacing the original set on the bike, so i can only compare like for like.
The 2's are definitely more chuckable around the corners, or seem that way to me. After 1800 miles there's hardly been any wear on the rear so perhaps the new spec saying you get higher mileage out of them seems to be right.
I think tyres are very subjective to the rider anyway, so whats right for one rider another may think he's skating on ice on the same type.

Battlewings and Conti Attack
I had battle wings on my 08GS and i found them great in the dry and never had a problem in the wet.
I just changed to a new GSA on saturday and it had Conti Attacks on it, i was a bit miffed as i liked the Wings, however, i took it easy on the way home to scrub the tyres in but, by the time id ridden the 50 miles home i was already leaning it it further on the Conti's than the wings on the GS.
Early days and it may just be the differance between the GS and GSA but the Attacks feel really good in the dry.

Both Tourance and Battlewings work fine for me. I dont understand what so many people have against Battlewings. I struggle to tell the difference...

I got no problem with Metzeler Tourances' i've done 7000miles and still plenty of meat on them

Agree - Trail attacks are great - but just changed my rear at 4,800 miles with less than 2mm of tread left
Front will need changing in anther 2,000 miles or so

but rather than start a very similar thread I thought it would be best to post here.
I need some new boots for my 08 GS as the Bridgestones are close to being knackered. I only ever ride on the road and I ride all year come rain hail or shine.
I am traditionally a Michelin man but that's on sportsbikes or sports tourers. I love their Pilot Road 2's but they don't do a 19" front so they're out. I then thought about Bridgestone BT021's but I'd need to mix with an 020 to get the right size. A bike mechanic mate suggested Dunlop Roadsmarts as they apparently do them in GS sizes. I've always avoided Dunlops like a wet manhole cover at full lean but apparently their latest generation are getting rave reviews. Has anyone tried them? If so, how do you find them in the wet? Any other suggestions for a full road tyre?

Trail attacks are great and are my tyre of choice and I get similar mileage i.e 5k per rear.
I run whatever is cheapest now (thanks Mr brown) and struggle to tell the difference between any of the brands TBH. I mix the brands as well (as long as they are similar tread pattern) and they all feel pretty similar. Got a set of Battle Wings ready to go on and they are really good IMHO.
On my second set of Dunlop 607's after at least two sets of Tourances.
Tourances last longer but do not feel as nice as the D607's. Tourances feel very weird (to me), as soon as they begin to square off by even the slightest amount - particularly when bolt upright at low speed, which isn't nice when riding around town - the 607's still feel ok even when severely squared off.
I think the D607's came out top of the dual-sports (for road use) in a Bike mag test a few moths ago. - for what that's worth.
I wouldn't mind trying something different next time though, Pirelli Scorpion Trail perhaps.
