My 'heads up' over tyre fitters/suppliers go to BATS in Oakham. A nice independent unit that only do bike tyres and the business is run by a biker. Great service and a free cuppa coffee whilst you wait !!
Rode in at 8 this morning and rode out less than an hour later with 2 new Battle wings, 100 miles on them already !!
Have always used Tourance But becouse they were spliting ( see another thread) I have just put Trail attacks on. only just come home so only 20 miles But 1st impresion they make the steering a lot heavier. i.e threading my way through town 1st couple of turns almost went too wide. Its O K when you get used to it but it definatly does not turn as easily as it does on tourances.
other than that they feel Ok almost scrubed them side to side already
My 1200gs has Conti Trail attacks on. They are pretty good. I keep scraping my boots in the corners, and am suprised I haven't had the pegs down yet.
I've only done about 500 miles on them, and the bike so cannot compare them to anything else.
However, I have some Dunlops (not sure which) on my KTM LC4 SM. They stick like snot to a blanket.
Dunlop roadsmarts are apparently VERY slippy until they are scrubbed in. They have been known to catch out even experienced bikers...
Has anyone changed the 170/50 rear for a 160/60 rear??? I only ask because, my Bandit 600 came with a 150/70 but when changed to a 160/60, it had MORE rubber on the road in a corner.
Just had Conti Trail Attacks fitted after wearing out my Dunlop 607s - Seem pretty good so far - no complaints - front seems slightly less twitchy than either the Dunlops or Tourance, very stable at speed - perhaps slightly heavier to steer than the Dunlops but maybe that makes them more stable, dunno, but on balance defiitely an improvement over the others - early days, but best tyres I have had on the GS.
When choosing Dunlops, be aware that Dunlop do not approve of repairs to their tyres. Went in to have my rear 607 with only 2.5k miles out of it repaired after it picked up a screw. Fitter at Micheldever Tyres refused, saying Dunlop did not approve of any repairs to their bike tyres.

I don't think that any manufacturer approves of repairs to their tyres in order to cover their own ars*s in any law suit - however I had a D607 repaired at a BMW motorcycle dealer a few weeks ago and there were no qualms whatsoever. Each repair depends upon the type of puncture and its location - but if it's ok, an internal patch is used and it is done by someone who knows what they are doing then the repair should last the lifetime of the tyre.
Sounds like either your puncture was in an unrepairable position or the fitter lacked the knowledge or they just couldn't be ars*d.
