Hi All, I've got a puncture on the front which can't be repaired so I'm faced with replacing it. I'm currently running TKC 70's which were on when I bought the bike, but would be interested in changing if there was something more appropriate.

What is the general recommendation these days for a 2016 GSA1200? I commute on the bike all year round sos need it to be good in the wet etc. and will be doing some longer trips come the Spring so needs to be a good touring tyre. I don't do any off road, but I don't want to fear for my life when there is a little gravel on the road either ;o) Budget is less of a priority.

Thanks in advance.

PS. Happy Christmas!

Conti TA2 gives me the longest life, great handling, and the rear doesn't square off like Anakee 3's tend to.

Different bike but as similar as they get -

I had TKC-70 on the Hexhead. Compared to the worn out Tourance front they had a knife edge handling feel. I soon adapted and the bike felt very light to ride. The tread blocks moved about a bit at speed - nothing nasty but made motorways more tiring. Ive replaced with Trail Attack 2. The handling style feels more stable but grip is at least as good. After 1000 miles I can still read the printed logos on the tread wearing area. I expect the TA2s to last longer but far too early to tell for sure.

Thanks both. Someone suggested Michelin pr 4 trail tyres. What's your thoughts on these?

I can thoroughly recommend the PR4's, I had them on my last 3 GS's.
Superb grip, excellent in the wet, unstickable in the dry, and they definitely improve the ride quality.
Some folk have suffered with punctures but I've not suffered with any in the last 4 sets.

Ran PR4's on my last GS WC and were the first ones on my 65 plate GSA. Good tyre wet or dry. Since replaced with Roadtec 01's and they are up at another level.
Group of us did weekend in north Scotland this August, with all types of weather, and never ever thought about the tyres at any point. For me that's the best recommendation for any tyre.

I've got a set of Avon Trailriders waiting to be fitted to mine. They seem to get some cracking reviews, so we'll see.

Maybe I should try some Roadtec 01's next change, who makes 'em.

PR4 Trail is marketing-speak for a PR4 in the sizes needed to fit a GS. *Exactly* the same tread pattern, possibly a slightly different compound somewhere. Works for me since I replaced the factory-fit A3's at 4.5K miles - 15K miles back.

Avon trail riders currently for me 1000 miles in. Would not go back to anakees.

Had conti trail attack 1s on hex head and liked but did square off a bit.

Not tried PR4s but heard stories of quite prone to picking up punctures.

Thanks everyone! So many choices - why is it never easy - "choose this one" and everyone agrees!!!

Bike ended up at Williams Manchester as it couldn't be repaired roadside. Garage feels very empty . Williams saying tyre suppliers closed until the new year

Cut out the confusion and chose a tyre yourself. It's not difficult and it'll save you ending up with a list (remarkably similar to the last lists) of the last tyres bods bought.

Is there nowhere else in Manchester or the north west of England that can supply a motorcycle tyre or two before next Tuesday? Some northern powerhouse that is.

PS It's not a child you've lost. To avoid any more tears, take yourself out of the garage. You'll feel better, very quickly. I promise.

Avon Trailriders, I had no issues with the A3's but I prefer the look of the Trailriders, they handle as well as anything else I've run over the last 10 years of GS ownership, in fact the only shit tyre I've run were the PR4's, amazing when new, fucking shocking in the wet once half worn!

I live in the garage. I'm not allowed into the 'proper' house. Ironically the children locked me in there
