Ok, so my bike is currently fitted from factory with Michelin Anakee III tyres, which I am looking to change before I take delivery of the bike. My current GS is fitted with Metzeller Tourance Next, and I am pleased with them. However some people mentioned that BMW would not fit METZ at the factory if specified at the time of order and choice is Anakee's or Conti Trail Attack 2. Saying that, my bike is already in the showroom.

So, I thought I'd start a Poll(select your choice above) on the subject and see what you guys will respond with. Once you select your tyre of choice, could you please post a short summary of:

•Wear (how many miles covered per set F+R) not hooning about:blast, normal riding. :rob
•Wet Grip 1* - 5*
•Dry Grip 1* - 5*
•Puncture Resistance
•Cornering Grip 1* - 5*

Many thanks.

Just to mention, I cover in excess of 10000 miles per year so ideally need one set to last that long.

Currently on Anakees as they came on the bike. Had conti trail attack 2's on my 1290sa and will be putting a pair on in spring.

Pilot road 4. Back was good for approx 5k miles. 5 out of 5 for everything and I don't hang about, felt really confident riding them in the wet, never a blip.

Anakees are ok but square off , not a patch imho.

Thank you for your reply,

Could you please vote above with your tyre choice.

Many thanks

Got 10k miles out of both the road 4 gt rear tyres i have used, they feel no different to the trail version, very good in the wet...never used any other tyres on my gs

Scorpion Trail 2s - second set now at 7k miles with probably around another 2k to go. Only now beginning to show signs of squaring, but not so much that it is affecting the handling.

Can't fault them - 5/5 for all. Cold, wet or hot.

More 'feel' than the A3s, not harsh, and no noise.

Other than checking pressures and damage I don't have to think about them, which is how I like tyres to be.

Replaced the original anakees with Avon Trail Riders, done about 6k km now and would say the rear is half worn, the front still looks newish. Would expect to get two rears to one front. Grip is noticeably better than the anakees in all conditions. No punctures as yet!

How come no bridgestone A40 on list? JJH

Appologies for not adding them, I did not come accross the so it wasn't on my list.

Mods, feel free to add them to the POLL as it appears I can't edit it myself.

Many thanks

I've had Pilot Road 4's fitted for the past year, at 9000km's the rear is over half worn.

5* for everything and I've had no punctures.

Roadtech 01's

After 2 or 3 sets of PR4's, I read reports of them wearing quickly so decided to swap to the Roadtechs, really impressed, had the pedal down once on a roundabout just south of Marlborough, did the 4 times with the PR4's but the Roadtech definitely seem to last longer. Unfortunately the new bikes come with Anakees and I'm too tight to change until they die.

Round one's possibly even black.

Pr4 but get the gt version, it's harder in the middle 1/3rd(4) and soft (2) on the sides compared to Pr4 Trail which soft(2) and supersoft (1) on the sides.

You're not supposed to mix them !

PR4 Trails on a GSA

•Wear ~5000, on the first set.
•Wet Grip 5
•Dry Grip 5
•Puncture Resistance 4
•Cornering Grip 5

Pilot road 4s

Wet grip 5
Cornering 5
Puncture resistance 4
Dry grip n/a

I took an R1200R sport out for the wettest day ever from Cotswolds it had the PR4s. I took it into Wales to give it a blast in the hills and lanes. It pissed down from 9-5 but the longer I stayed in the saddle the harder I pushed the bike in the wet conditions. Something I've never done before. The level of confidence I got from the tires was above anything I'd felt before. Can't vouch for much dry usage and didn't get a puncture from some very dubious gravel and debris strewn Welsh lanes. Hope that helps a little

Metzler Tourance Next

Had my 2014 GSA LC since June 2016 and done about 7k miles on them, there's still lids of rubber remaining, I'd say they're good for another 3k at least but they're squaring off. No punctures yet and grip is pretty good.

Pr 4 trail 5 and 5 6k miles Avon Trail on now find them better than pr4 in all respects.

Could you add road noise to the poll questions?
