Bahnstormer did two Trailriders for £195.00, with a deal on fitting (FOC), as they owed me a favour

No such luck for me, they can't match prices I can find and fitting is a heavily discounted rate according to Terry if I wanted to go with supplying my own tyres.

Best price I can find on Avon Trailriders is £205.50 delivered.

I'm surprised by the popularity of the Avon's. I've read on a number of other forums where people can't hack the 'hardness' of the tyre.

If it were me I'd still have the Dunlop Trailsmarts on my shortlist. On my third set and think they are better than the Pirelli's, Anakee's and Avon's. My top three would be Tourance Next, Trailattack 2 and Trailsmart (for a dual sport type of tyre).:thumb

All very subjective - I except!

I'm surprised the PR4 is so popular with its shorter wear life and purported attraction with punctures. I like PR4s and if I went back to a sports tourer that's probably what I'd go for. But the GS/GSA is an "adventure" styled bike so presumably most of us are not hooning around trying to race everyone else.

Maybe the attraction has come from the confidence it gives in bends even when only mildly hooning.

Anyway I'm sticking with Tourance Next until I change the bike or can't get them.

Ok, so my bike is currently fitted from factory with Michelin Anakee III tyres, which I am looking to change before I take delivery of the bike. My current GS is fitted with Metzeller Tourance Next, and I am pleased with them. However some people mentioned that BMW would not fit METZ at the factory if specified at the time of order and choice is Anakee's or Conti Trail Attack 2. Saying that, my bike is already in the showroom.

So, I thought I'd start a Poll(select your choice above) on the subject and see what you guys will respond with. Once you select your tyre of choice, could you please post a short summary of:

•Wear (how many miles covered per set F+R) not hooning about:blast, normal riding. :rob
•Wet Grip 1* - 5*
•Dry Grip 1* - 5*
•Puncture Resistance
•Cornering Grip 1* - 5*

Many thanks.

Just to mention, I cover in excess of 10000 miles per year so ideally need one set to last that long.

Pictures of the new GS show them with Metzler Tourance Next fitted??????????

I had conti trail attacks on my TC and loved um!. When I bought a WC, it came with Anakee 3s on they were ok, but only ok. I changed them for Conti trail attacks 2. I have only just done 250 miles on them ,but already feeling the difference for the better.

I have had 2 sets of the Avon Trailrider and thought they were great. I've just had a set of Conti trail attack fitted and find them good on grip but a bit harder ride, not tried them in the wet yet.

But so far so good with the Conti, but still rate the Avons as excellent but the conti are way better than the anakee for me anyway.

Terry

I find them great in dry. Dangerous in damp or wet. I can break traction on dry road with them on the GS. Only 1200mile on mine and both of before i take back out again.

I replaced the oem trail attack 2's with PR4 trails today. The conti were great for 9000 miles in the dry, no problem in the wet but not as confident in the wet as the PR4's.

Just Ordered a set of Conti Trail Attack 2's, used Metzeler Tourance Next on my last GS, liked them, but wanted to try something different even though these gave me a good milage and grip i needed. PR4 are attractive but reported puncture resistance is an issue for me.

A bike arrived at the tyre shop yesturday with a punctured PR4. Punctures will put me off and I will quickly go back to Trail Attacks 2. Previously I had standard PR4's on a R1200R and today will be the first ride on a GS.
Talking to the rep on the Michelin stand he explained the trail version was built and tested around the GS LC and has a stiffer carcas but softer compound tha the regular PR4.
