Have managed to get my hands on a cheap tourance for the rear wheel on my 1200gsa but now cant find anybody willing to change it !!!!!!!!

Have been to the local bike dealers and they are both unwilling to change it because of the shape of the lip on the gsa spoked wheel, even tried a couple of car trye places and they have said the same because of the rims the machine wont grip them properly and they slip and damage the rims.

Has any body else had this same scenario, or is it just because i live in bumpkin land north devon :D

Even one of the garages tryed to sell me a set of rims which he had damaged when trying to fit them SO IF ANYBODY NEEDS A SPARE SET OF SPOKED RIMS FOR AN 1150 GSA WITH A FEW SCATCHS ON, PM ME I,LL SEE WHAT HE WANTS FOR THEM

Cheers Badger

Yes and the fekcing arsholes at BMW who were the only ones that would in the end charged £50:eek:

I NEVER trust anyone to put my tyres on...do it myself.

Most of the tyre changing "technicians" ( Oh! how I smile at that one) are more interested in getting back to their texting, than fitting a tyre correctly with little or no rim damage...

Hi Badger,
Did you try Len or Adam at Teapes Tyres - I have always found them extremely helpful

Hi TyreMark

saw Len this morning its actuall Len who has the set of scatched rims cost him £1000 to replace them, so Len wont touch them now

Sounds like you need to learn how to change them yourself. Getting the old tyre off is the hardest bit as you need to break the bead from the rim, once that's done on both sides it's quite easy to remove. Fitting the new one is easy, though it depends on the make of tyre as to how stiff the sidewalls are. Doing it in the warm is a big advantage as the tyre is more flexible. I've not seen the rims on a GSA but rim protecters are available to stop tyre levers scrawping the rims when you get to the final stages of easing the new tyre over the rim.

A bit of soft soap around the rim and bead and an air line will normally pop the tyre into place on both sides by the time you reach 50-60 psi.

Changing a tyre is about half an hour start to finish once you've got the hang of it.

Biggest advantage is the ability to buy from the cheapest source, the saving of between £10- 50 (!!!) on fitting, and no hassle of taking the bike or wheel to the fitting shop.

Oh dear

Changing a tyre is a job that I always found very hard work; As soon as it was possile to go a tyre depot and watch a chap change them - who did nothing else all day - I vowed to never ever try again.
I have mine changed by the local dealer, balanced and then road-tested by the boss himself; Some say it is extravangant but I think it is worth it just for peace of mind;

You obviosly went to the wrong places then. Having been fitting bike tyres for 17 years I still have not damaged a bike rim, as for texting, mobiles are banned at work. ;)

Dave, That's why I used the term "Most", no derogatory implications to "some" that are out there who do a great job....:beerjug:

Just put in my twopence worth, years ago when nearly all bike Tyres where mounted on chromed Steel rims I changed my own and never gave a thought about causing damage, not that I did anyway. Since the emergence of alloy wheels on Cars as well as Bikes its off to the Tyre Dealer now where I have "never" had Tyres fitted without some form of visible caused during Fitting. I can recall a couple of years ago having new Metzeler Z6 Road Techs fitted to an Aprillia Futura which has just about the most Pretty alloys going. I asked the "Technician" !!, "please be careful with my Rims", a request which was met with a foul look and a grunt. (should have cancelled there and then). Off to the Shops with the Missus to kill some time. Returned two hours later to pick up my Wheels complete with nice new Roadtechs and nicely scratched Rims. Anyone know of a "caring" tyre fitter around Tees-Side !!

:) I've been using the same two companies for over 15 yrs with absolutley ZERO problems...
m/c tyres go to my local Yamaha Dealer inc my V expensive OZ rims and all my car ones to my local Tyre dealer....never had an issue at all:nenau
I shall certainly be interested to see if they comment on the "BMW rim" when it's change time but they've already seen the bike and no adverse comments were passed then...
