Hi Lads and Ladies,
I have found some tyres here in Argentina for my R1100Gs
They are Pirelli MT60
But the front size is 110/90 r19 and my orginal tyre is 110/80 r19. Will this tyre do and does the 80 and 90 make any difference at all ?
thanks

The tyres will certainly fit on the rim - but the '90' means that it is a taller tyre and will have a greater rolling radius. I can't say whether it would fit under the front guard. If it does, you'd probably be OK for a 'distress' purchase.

Much safer, though, if you can find the proper size.

Joe, the 110 is the width of the tyre, and I understand, the second figure is the percentage of the width which accounts for the height, so 90% of 110 or 80% of 110 as the case may be. This is a higher sidewall, and as mentioned, a bigger tyre than the original. Could be used if there's nothing else, but one thing you should watch out for is the speed rating. After the 3 numbers of the tyre size (in this case 110/90 19 there is usually a number and letter combination which indicate the maximum load per tyre at a certain maximum speed. The load and speed are determined by manufactuer's design and testing based on the tyre size and tread pattern. A coarse pattern will heat up more quickly therefore a lower speed rating will usually apply at the stated load when compared to a normal pattern. So, this should be at least H rated I would have thought....This from the web....

Marking Charactistics
Speed Symbol "N" For vehicles with a speed capability not exceeding 140 Km/h (88 Mph)
Speed Symbol "P" For vehicles not exceeding 150 Km/h (94 Mph)
Speed Symbol "Q" vehicles not exceeding 160 Km/h (100 Mph)
Speed Symbol "R" vehicles not exceeding 170 Km/h (106 Mph)
Speed Symbol "S" vehicles not exceeding 180 Km/h (113 Mph)
Speed Symbol "T" not exceeding 190 Km/h (119 Mph)
Speed Symbol "U" not exceeding 200 Km/h (125 Mph)
Speed Symbol "H" not exceeding 210 Km/h (130 Mph)

We can discount these...unless you've SERIOUSLY modded your beast :-))

Speed Category "VR" For vehicles having speed capability over 210 Km/h (e.g. 195.50 VR 15)
Speed Category "ZR" For vehicles with a speed capability over 240 Km/h (e.g. 205.40 ZR 17)
Speed Symbol "V" For vehicles with a speed capability not exceeding 240 Km/h (e.g. 225.55 R 15 91V)
Speed Symbol "W" For vehicles having speed capability not exceeding 270 Km/h (e.g. 225.60 R 15 96W)
Speed Symbol "Y" For vehicles having speed capability not exceeding 300 Km/h (e.g. 275.40 R 18 94Y)
ZR+ Speed Symbol "W" Tyres marked with both designations for vehicles with speed capability over 240 Km/h but not exceeding 270 Km/h
ZR+ Speed Symbol "Y" Tyres marked with both designations for vehicles with speed capability over 240 Km/h but not exceeding 300 Km/h

I should imagine that the difference between an 80% and 90% aspect ratio would amount to between 10-20mm in the height of the tyre so it should`nt be a problem.

Bits.

Thanks Greg, Rob and Alan,

Good information there Rob, so your avatar shows you in your work uniform then

Hope you get sorted and back on the road Jose,

Iain

Hi Jose
Nobody seems to have mentioned Speedometer error due to the increase in tyre diameter, believe i'm correct in saying your speedo will read slower than actual speed. allthough not so much a problem for you as it is for us in "Gatso Country"
Cheers
Brian.
