Has anyone used tyre levers to change a tubeless tyre by hand? If so what type of levers did you use?

I spent today trying to take the tyres off my Tenere. I got the inner tube out ok but gave up changing tyres, so it's off to the bike shop tommorrow. Anyway, I bought the levers from M&P. They did the job ok. I wouldn't bother with using them on a tubeless, the sidewalls would need a fatter man than me to lever them off.

I've used proper commercial levers (mate used to run his own tyre-fitting business), and it isn't a big deal. The hardest parts are getting the tyre un-seated before removal (mallet or jump up and down on it), and getting it re-seated after fitting (push down hard to seat bottom, then pull the tyre inwards toward the rim to get a seal for inflation).

All that said, it really is one of those things that you need to do to understand fully. Hein Gericke do two sizes of lever, as well as rim protectors (an absolute must, IMHO), and there's a Canadian guy in here somewhere that does a GS compatible balancer for reasonable money.

Good luck :thumb

Should have said that

It's in relation to changing tyres on a long overland trip rather than doing it here at home.
