Sorry to bang on about tyres and tyre pressure stuff again folks :augie but, it seems that my rear tyre is losing pressure from the valve:mad: . It's a 2008 1200 GSA and has tyre pressure monitoring, because of the pressure loss it keeps flashing amber or even red on occasion. Since a new valve that sends information is about 90 quid plus fitting and programming by BMW, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what affect putting a "normal" valve in would be? Would the light stop or would it continue to flash?
Cheers in advance.

you get a repair kit from bmw with new vavle and seals about 16 quid last time i got one iirc

The sensor is not in the valve, its in the centre part of the rim IIRC. So just changing the valve should cure your problem. I'm happy to be corrected though.

One could screw out the old valve and screw in a new one. One would also expect that a good valve cap would prevent said leak. I would try tightening it first. JJH

I had a puncture in July and watched the fitter take the tyre off, there was a metal thing in the centre of the wheel, I asked the fitter what it was, and he said sensor. The conversation was in Spanish, so he or I could have misunderstood the question/ answer. The bike was a WC.

spoked or alloy, assumed spoked but the alloy wheel sensor and valve are indeed seperate sorry for any confusion

Isn't there a sticker in the rim that indicates where the sensor is so you don't knacker it with levers when changing a tyre. I don't think it's anywhere near the valve tube. I too have seen the thing in the middle of the rim and my valves have been replaced by a fitter. My TPMS still works.

Sorry. Ignore me. I'm talking about a WC and I've just noted this is a 2008. My bad.

yes confusing, all non wc sensor is part of valve stem (but rebuildable), wc spoke wheels the same but wc alloys seperate due to valve being in the cast spoke of the wheel

Alloys on WC GS...... I thought I hear him right.

Thanks for clearing it up...:thumb2

Check the seal between the valve and the rim. Dollop of spit applied with a finger will show up any air leaks.
