Hi,

Did a quick search on this site and on the web; couldn't find the info I needed.

Somebody out there must know.

What is the recommended tyre pressures for Metzler Tourance Tyres on an 1150GS? - I know I can play with the pressures until I am happy with them - but the recommended pressures give me a starting point.

Thanks

Carl

For what it's worth I run the same Metzelers on my R1100GS as OEM fitted tyres but according to B*W 2.5 (36psi) front and 2.9 (42psi)rear is only for when fully loaded (2 up with luggage) just 2 up no luggage and the rear drops to 2.7 otherwise normal solo not loaded 2.2 (32psi) front and 2.5 (36psi)rear.
It could be the 1150 is different but I would be surprised.

It got me thinking that was full load - so I mailed them. The answer they came back with is.........

'Dear Mr Norton,

Thank you for your E-Mail.

We do not get have the tyres air pressure recommended by the manufacturer for your BMW. Please contact your dealer or take a look into the rider´s manual. Usually, air pressure can also be found under the seat or near the rear-wheel fastening. The recommended pressure (front: 2,5 bar rear: 2,9 bar) is for two people with luggage.'

Interesting - i've recently changed both tyres. I decided to go Tourance front and rear as they seem to suit well.
I got a 'V' rated front and tried to get a 'V' rated rear - but after 3 weeks back order settled for the 'H' rated rear.

Why have a 'V' when 'H' is recommended i hear you cry.

Well a 'V' rating tyre must have a stiffer or differing construction to cope with increased loads so 'should' in theory resist wear slightly better. That's my theory anyway and i'll find out by practical use. If anyone can argue for/ against i'd be interested.

Anyway, after fitting the front i thought i felt 'different somehow to the very worn one that it replaced. I put it down to differing profile and that i'd get used to it as it wore in.

Well -300 mls later it still feels vague and not as stuck to the ground as it should.

I thought i'd drop the pressure to 25psi to see the difference - amazing - exactly how it used to feel now. The front feels tighter, more grippier and more stuck to the road.

and i checked the pressure with 3 gauges.

It's legal to run a Higher rated Tyre on the Rear than the one fitted to the Front, but not the other way round.
