Collected my 2016 gs from its annual service this afternoon, I thought I would see what the tyre pressures were set at as I left and was surprised to see 2.2 and 2.5 bar. I pulled over to check paper work which had a tick in 'tyre pressures checked', but my handbook said they should be 2.5 and 2.9 bar so I thought I return and question the difference. The service adviser asked if everything was ok so I told him my concerns to which he said that it would have been set for 1 up riding and the figures I was looking at were for 2 up ?
I can only find the one set of pressures or am I missing something?

Your missing the fact the mechanic didn't check the pressures and the service adviser told you lies

Or perhaps the mechanic thought those pressures are correct.

Move on, pump your tyres up to what you think is correct and ride the bike.

Service advisor is telling porkies the LC models use the same pressures either solo or two up , those are the solo tyre pressures for a pre LC model

If they can't get the tyre pressures right what chance of you of getting a proper service done?

Tyre pressure is a safety item as well

Thanks. As I thought, I am starting to loose faith in my dealer which I have had great service from in the past and i certainly don't appreciate being lied to.

Previous GS had the pressures as 2.2 front and 2.5 rear. For 2 up the pressures where 2.5/2.9. Same as the GS LC handbook states. Might be some confusion or misunderstanding. No big worries.

Very big worries in my book. 2.2 from 2.5 is a big drop, certainly big enough to alter the handling.
The guy should know what he is working on.
In my game, Air compressors some need the mpv setting to 6 bar and some to 5 bar, setting a 6 bar to 5 bar does not end well for the machine. We revalidate our training every few years and I would expect the main dealer to do the same thing.

... too many bikes to service in summer. Take her in in winter and they service them better.

Don't rely on the on board reading though - use a good tyre pressure gauge and then see what the bike says.

Don't forget the bikes reading is Temperature adjusted.
I must confess I don't understand how that compensation actually works. But if I set my pressures correctly using a decent gauge the bike readings on my GS are different. I don't adjust the pressures but use the figures on the bike as a reference. I have had the bike show 2.3/2.7 despite setting 2.5/2.9 using my (hopefully reliable - but that's a different topic) pressure gauge.

You took the bike back because the tyre pressures weren't right ?

Is that what happened ?

Really ?

Thats the whole point, do you know how reliable your pressure gauge is? Or more to the point how accurate. 2 different things.
Very basically then BMW TPMS reading on your dash wont change during a ride, it should give you a theoretical 'cold' pressure. If the tyres are warm and you measure the pressure you will get a different reading.
As you ride they tyre temp will increase and therefore the pressure should also go up. Thats why pressures usually are set cold.
If the tyre pressure increases a lot, then the cold tyre was at too low a pressure - too much flex and movement in the tyre causes lots of heat and therefore the big pressure increase.
If the tyre pressure hardly increases during riding then the cold pressure was set too high.
Front should increase in pressure more than the rear. Hope that makes sense.

As it happens I wouldn't. But is it really so bad to do.
Just suppose you were involved in a serious collision on the way home from the service. If you tyres are out of the recommended pressure by more than a certain amount (I cant remember the exact amount but its not much) then the Insurance company and the Police would be interested in that.

I wouldn't take it back but I would be on the phone to them. Missing something so simple would make me wonder what else might be wrong.

Take responsibility for your own property. Tyre pressure low, inflate it. Did the dealer make a mistake? Then tell them so they can improve their service. Surely you get a courtesy call after the service or a survey email. The only people who is going to benefit from your feedback is people like us. Get over it. Bitching on a forum like it is a dating site is not going to solve the problem.

By the way the owners manual states to use the TPS sensor to ensure that the pressures are correctly set as it is temp corrected therefore you will have a difference when you set the pressures using a gauge. Pg 115 in the 2017 owners manual.

Did I understand correctly that the tyre pressures in wc models are the same when 1 or 2 passengers? It is extraordinary.
